Communication
Communication (from la, communicare, meaning "to share" or "to be in relation with") is usually defined as the transmission of information. The term may also refer to the message communicated through such transmissions or the field of inquiry studying them. There are many disagreements about its precise definition. John Peters argues that the difficulty of defining communication emerges from the fact that communication is both a Universality (philosophy), universal phenomenon and a Communication studies, specific discipline of institutional academic study. One definitional strategy involves limiting what can be included in the category of communication (for example, requiring a "conscious intent" to persuade). By this logic, one possible definition of communication is the act of developing Semantics, meaning among Subject (philosophy), entities or Organization, groups through the use of sufficiently mutually understood signs, symbols, and Semiosis, semiotic conventions. Correspondence (category Theory)
In category theory, a branch of mathematics, profunctors are a generalization of relations and also of bimodules. Definition A profunctor (also named distributor by the French school and module by the Sydney school) \,\phi from a category C to a category D, written :\phi \colon C\nrightarrow D, is defined to be a functor :\phi \colon D^\times C\to\mathbf where D^\mathrm denotes the opposite category of D and \mathbf denotes the category of sets. Given morphisms f\colon d\to d', g\colon c\to c' respectively in D, C and an element x\in\phi(d',c), we write xf\in \phi(d,c), gx\in\phi(d',c') to denote the actions. Using the cartesian closure of \mathbf, the category of small categories, the profunctor \phi can be seen as a functor :\hat \colon C\to\hat where \hat denotes the category \mathrm^ of presheaves over D. A correspondence from C to D is a profunctor D\nrightarrow C. Profunctors as categories An equivalent definition of a profunctor \phi \colon C\nrightar ...

Distant Education
Distance education, also known as distance learning, is the education of students who may not always be physically present at a school, or where the learner and the teacher are separated in both time and distance. Traditionally, this usually involved correspondence courses wherein the student corresponded with the school via mail. Distance education is a technology mediated modality and has evolved with the evolution of technologies such as video conferencing, TV, and internet. Today, it usually involves online education and the learning is usually mediated by some form of technology. A distance learning program can be completely distance learning, or a combination of distance learning and traditional classroom instruction (called hybrid or blended). Other modalities include distance learning with complementary virtual environment or teaching in virtual environment (e-learning). Massive open online courses (MOOCs), offering large-scale interactive participation and open access ...

The Correspondence
''The Correspondence'' ( it, La corrispondenza) is an English-language Italian romantic film written and directed by Giuseppe Tornatore. It stars Jeremy Irons and Olga Kurylenko in lead roles, and was released on 14 January 2016. The film score was composed by Ennio Morricone in his final score before his death in 2020. Plot A couple is kissing in a hotel room, astrophysics professor Ed (Jeremy Irons) and his lover the PhD student Amy Ryan (Olga Kurylenko). They can meet only occasionally, when Ed's work brings them together. He challenges her to reveal more of herself, perhaps something that bothers her but that she kept secret from him, but she refuses. Ed leaves the room for the airport hoping to see her at his next conference at her University. Next to her studies Amy has free-lance jobs as stuntwoman who is not afraid to perform dangerous scenes that normally lead to the death of the character: the movie shows her in action on occasion. She is even asked to model for a scul ...

Correspondence Chess
Correspondence chess is chess played by various forms of long-distance correspondence, traditionally through the postal system. Today it is usually played through a correspondence chess server, a public internet chess forum, or email. Less common methods that have been employed include fax, homing pigeon and phone. It is in contrast to (OTB) chess, where the players sit at a chessboard at the same time, or play each other in real time via the internet. Correspondence chess allows people or clubs who are geographically distant to play one another without meeting in person. These distant relationships are just one of the many distinct appeals of correspondence chess. The length of a game played by correspondence can vary depending on the method used to transmit moves: a game played via server or by email might last no more than a few days, weeks, or months; a game played by post between players in different countries might last several years. Structure Correspondence chess diff ...

Table Of Magical Correspondences
A table of magical correspondences is a list of magical correspondences between items belonging to different categories, such as correspondences between certain deities, heavenly bodies, plants, perfumes, precious stones, etc. Such lists were compiled by 19th-century occultists like Samuel Liddell Mathers and William Wynn Westcott (both members of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn), who in the 1890s prepared an (unpublished) manuscript called ''The Book of Correspondences''. This manuscript was later reworked by Aleister Crowley, who anonymously published it in 1909 as ''Liber 777''. These tables of correspondences were meant to be used in a ceremonial context, where specific magical objects were assigned to specific deities or Kabbalistic emanations (sefirot).. See also *Doctrine of signatures *Ceremonial magic * Correspondence, a concept in the philosophy of the 18th-century theologian Emanuel Swedenborg *Grimoire A grimoire ( ) (also known as a "book of spells" or a ...

Correspondence (theology)
Correspondence is a relationship between two levels of existence. The term was coined by the 18th-century theologian Emanuel Swedenborg in his ''Arcana Cœlestia'' (1749–1756), '' Heaven and Hell'' (1758) and other works. Swedenborg Definition In the terminology of Swedenborg's revelation, “correspondence” is a basic relationship found between two levels of existence. Thus, for instance, light corresponds to wisdom because wisdom enlightens the mind as light enlightens the eye. Warmth corresponds to love because love warms the mind as heat does the body. Swedenborg says that the Word (Bible) was written by God entirely according to correspondences so that within its natural laws and histories every detail describes the spiritual realities relating to God and man, these being the true subject of the Word. Swedenborg's 12-volume Arcana Coelestia provides verse-by-verse details of the inner meaning of Genesis and part of Exodus; the work ''Apocalypse Revealed'' does the same ...

Correspondence Theory Of Truth
In metaphysics and philosophy of language, the correspondence theory of truth states that the truth or falsity of a statement is determined only by how it relates to the world and whether it accurately describes (i.e., corresponds with) that world.Hanna and Harrison (2004), ch. 1, p. 21, quotation: "The assessment of truth and falsity is made possible by the existence of semantically mediated correlations between the members of some class of linguistic entities possessing assertoric force (in some versions of the Correspondence Theory propositions, in others sentences, or bodies of sentences), and the members of some class of extralinguistic entities: “states of affairs,” or “facts,” or bodies of truth-conditions, or of assertion-warranting circumstances." Correspondence theories claim that true beliefs and true statements correspond to the actual state of affairs. This type of theory attempts to posit a relationship between thoughts or statements on one hand, and things ...

Correspondence Analysis
Correspondence analysis (CA) is a multivariate statistical technique proposed by Herman Otto Hartley (Hirschfeld) and later developed by Jean-Paul Benzécri. It is conceptually similar to principal component analysis, but applies to categorical rather than continuous data. In a similar manner to principal component analysis, it provides a means of displaying or summarising a set of data in two-dimensional graphical form. Its aim is to display in a biplot any structure hidden in the multivariate setting of the data table. As such it is a technique from the field of multivariate ordination. Since the variant of CA described here can be applied either with a focus on the rows or on the columns it should in fact be called simple (symmetric) correspondence analysis. It is traditionally applied to the contingency table of a pair of nominal variables where each cell contains either a count or a zero value. If more than two categorical variables are to be summarized, a variant called multi ...

Correspondence (von Neumann Algebra)
In mathematics, a von Neumann algebra or W*-algebra is a *-algebra of bounded operators on a Hilbert space that is closed in the weak operator topology and contains the identity operator. It is a special type of C*-algebra. Von Neumann algebras were originally introduced by John von Neumann, motivated by his study of single operators, group representations, ergodic theory and quantum mechanics. His double commutant theorem shows that the analytic definition is equivalent to a purely algebraic definition as an algebra of symmetries. Two basic examples of von Neumann algebras are as follows: *The ring L^\infty(\mathbb R) of essentially bounded measurable functions on the real line is a commutative von Neumann algebra, whose elements act as multiplication operators by pointwise multiplication on the Hilbert space L^2(\mathbb R) of square-integrable functions. *The algebra \mathcal B(\mathcal H) of all bounded operators on a Hilbert space \mathcal H is a von Neumann algebra, non ...
