Cornelius Forman Hatfield
Cornelius Forman Hatfield (December 27, 1828 – June 13, 1910) was a merchant, shipbuilder, ship owner and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Yarmouth County in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1890 to 1894 as a Liberal member. He was born in Tusket, Nova Scotia, the son of Captain James Hatfield and Elizabeth Lent, the daughter of James Lent. Hatfield was married three times: first to Deborah Hatfield, then to Sarah Bowlby in 1844 and finally to Marion Anderson. Forman owned general stores at Tusket and Tusket Wedge. He was a justice of the peace from 1872 to 1910 and served on the municipal council for Argyle township from 1902 to 1910, serving as warden from 1907 to 1910. Tusket, Nova Scotia
Tusket is a small fishing community located in Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia on route 308. History "Neketaouksit", the Mi'kmaq word for the "Great Forked Tidal River", evolved to what is now called Tusket. The village was originally settled by Acadians before the British launched the Cape Sable Campaign. Afterward the community was also settled by Dutch United Empire Loyalists from New York and New Jersey in 1785, after the Great Expulsion. In the 19th century the village was very prosperous as a major ship building centre. In 1801, the town rescued those who remained from the ship wreck of the Industry, after drifting in lifeboats for 5 days in the Bay of Fundy. The Old Tusket Courthouse, built in 1805 and featuring a bell tower, is the oldest standing courthouse in Canada. Yarmouth (provincial Electoral District)
Yarmouth is a provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada, that elects one member of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. It consists of the Municipality of the District of Yarmouth and the town of Yarmouth. From 1867 to 1981, the district included all of Yarmouth County and for most of that time elected two members. Albert Gayton
Albert Gayton (December 30, 1840 – March 7, 1923) was a merchant and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Yarmouth County in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1871 to 1890 as a Liberal member. He was born in Argyle, Nova Scotia, the son of James Gayton and Miriam Hamilton. In 1862, he married Helen Hamilton. He was Commissioner of Public Works and Mines for the province from 1877 to 1878 and was Commissioner of Mines in 1882 to 1884. Gayton also served as chairman of the Board of Public Charities for Nova Scotia. The Nova Scotia Liberal Party is a centrist provincial political party in Nova Scotia, Canada and the provincial section of the Liberal Party of Canada. The party currently forms the Official Opposition in Nova Scotia, under the leadership of Zach Churchill. The party was in power most recently from the 2013 election until the 2021 election. Origins The party is descended from the pre-Confederation Reformers in Nova Scotia who coalesced around Joseph Howe demanding the institution of responsible government.
