Cornelis Verhoeven
Cornelis Verhoeven (2 February 1928 – 11 June 2001) was a Dutch philosopher and writer. Early life and education Verhoeven was born in Udenhout, the fourth child of seven from a farmer's family in the south of the Netherlands. He attended a catholic priest seminary but was asked to leave. He then studied classics, philosophy and religious studies at the University of Nijmegen and earned his Ph.D. with the thesis ''Symboliek van de voet'' on 19 October 1956. Career Verhoeven taught Latin and Greek at the Jeroen Bosch College for 27 years. Then he became a professor of philosophy at the University of Amsterdam. He published more than 80 books. He has written original work on wonder, reality, violence, religion, contemplation and language, and interpretations and translations of classical and modern philosophers such as Heraclitus, Plato, Geulincx, Leibniz, Nietzsche and Heidegger. 's-Hertogenbosch
s-Hertogenbosch (), colloquially known as Den Bosch (), is a city and municipality in the Netherlands with a population of 157,486. It is the capital of the province of North Brabant and its fourth largest by population. The city is south of the Maas river and near the Waal; it is to the north east of the city of Tilburg, north west of Eindhoven, south west of Nijmegen, and a longer distance south of Utrecht and south east of Dordrecht. History The city's official name is a contraction of the (archaic) Dutch ''des Hertogen bosch'' — "the forest of the duke". The duke in question was Henry I of Brabant, whose family had owned a large estate at nearby Orthen for at least four centuries. Freediving
Freediving, free-diving, free diving, breath-hold diving, or skin diving is a form of underwater diving that relies on breath-holding until resurfacing rather than the use of breathing apparatus such as scuba gear. Besides the limits of breath-hold, immersion in water and exposure to high ambient pressure also have physiological effects that limit the depths and duration possible in freediving. Udenhout
Udenhout is a village and a former municipality in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is located northeast of Tilburg, north of Berkel-Enschot and south of the National Parc Loonse en Drunense Duinen. The municipality of Udenhout (including the village of Biezenmortel) was independent until 1997, when it became part of the municipality of Tilburg. Biezenmortel became part of the municipality of Haaren. Udenhout preferred to join the municipality of Loon op Zand, but was nevertheless assigned to Tilburg. The municipality consisted at the time of abolition in 1996 9,028 inhabitants and was 26.87 km2. During Carnaval Udenhout is called: "d'n Haozepot". History The village was first mentioned in 1233 as Odenhout. The etymology is unclear. Udenhout is a linear road village which started to develop at the end of the 18th century.
