Alan Cordner
Joseph Alan Cordner (6 May 1890 – 25 April 1915) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Geelong Football Club and Collingwood Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He was killed at Cape Helles in Ottoman Turkey during the initial invasion of the Gallipoli peninsula by the forces of the First AIF (Australian Imperial Force) on 25 April 1915. Family The son of Isaiah Joseph Cordner (1860–1934), a bank manager, and Jessie Cordner (1865-1901), née Walker, he was born on 6 May 1890 at Bridgewater On Loddon, Victoria. His father remarried Mabel Emilie McKay (1860–1969) in 1902. He had one full brother, Edward Clement Cordner (1892–1943), three half-brothers and one half-sister. He attended the Hamilton and Western District Boys' College from 1902 to 1906, and was a prefect in 1905 and school captain in 1906. Laurence Cordner
Laurence 'Larry' Osmaston Cordner (7 February 1911 – 11 July 1992) was an Australian sportsman who played first-class cricket for Victoria and Australian rules football in the VFL with Hawthorn. Cordner made just one VFL appearance for Hawthorn, against Collingwood at Glenferrie Oval during the 1933 season. His cousins were more successful, two of them Denis and Don, are members of the Melbourne Football Club Team of the Century. His half-brother Alan Cordner also played senior VFL football. The first of Cordner's three first-class cricket matches came in the Sheffield Shield competition of 1930–31 against South Australia, with his only notable contribution being the wicket of Bert Tobin. Four weeks later, at the MCG, he was part of the Victorian team which played a tour match with the West Indians. Cordner–Calder House
The Cordner–Calder House at 305 S. 900 E. in Orem, Utah is a Victorian-style house which was built in 1894 by William Cordner and was expanded around 1910. The home is associated with two families, the Corders and the Calders, both of which were "prominent fruit growers on the Provo Bench" whose "participation and influence in the growth of Orem is reflected in this house". It was built on what was once part of a tract patented by Irish immigrant Thomas Cordner in 1886. After Thomas' death, his fourth son, William, was deeded the 10 acre section portion of the land having the house in 1896 or 1902. It was later home of the Calders for many years. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. Cordner–Eggleston Cup
The Cordner–Eggleston Cup is a retrospective award commemorating the historic school football rivalry between Melbourne Grammar School and the Scotch College which has been contested since 1858. Competition between these schools is believed to have been pivotal in the establishment of Australian rules football. The cup, instituted in 1989 was named after prominent alumni from the respective schools – Dr Don Cordner (Melbourne Grammar) and Mr Michael Eggleston (Scotch College). Prior to the award, the two schools competed for honours and were recorded in the yearbooks and other sports logbooks of the respective schools. Other prominent schools at times also competed in the prestigious tournaments since the 1860s, including Geelong Grammar School. Edward Pruen Cordner (31 January 1919 – 4 March 1996) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1940s. John Pruen Cordner (20 March 1929 – 10 December 2016) was an Australian sportsman who played first-class cricket for Victoria and Australian rules football in the Victorian Football League (VFL) with Melbourne. Born in Diamond Creek, Victoria, Cordner came from a famous Australian rules football family with three brothers, Don, Denis and Ted all having noted careers for the Melbourne Football Club. John spent just one season with Melbourne, in 1951, and played six VFL games. Unlike his brothers, John excelled at cricket and made his first-class debut for Victoria in the 1951/52 Sheffield Shield season. Playing against Queensland at Brisbane he dismissed both openers, Leyland Sanders and Wally Grout, with his left-arm fast-medium bowling to finish with figures of 2 for 37 in the first innings. Boyd Cordner (born 9 June 1992) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played as a forward for the Sydney Roosters in the NRL and Australia at international level. John Cordner (politician)
John Cordner (3 July 1816 – 22 June 1894) was the first Unitarian minister in Canada. Cordner was born in Ireland, where his family in Newry belonged to a politically radical sect of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland. Cordner studied at the Royal Belfast Academical Institution, then worked in commerce. He was ordained in 1843 as a Unitarian minister. That year, he emigrated to Montreal to become minister to the first Unitarian congregation in Canada. Cordner's ministry was successful and popular, especially among the upper-middle classes and the business elite. He wrote and edited several magazines.
