Corban () is a former municipality in the district of Delémont in the canton of Jura in Switzerland. On 1 January 2018 the former municipality of Corban merged into the municipality of Val Terbi. History Corban is first mentioned in 1184 as ''Bathendorf''. In 1240 it was mentioned as ''Corpaon''. Geography Corban has an area of . Corban University
Corban University is a private Christian university in Salem, Oregon. There are about 1,200 full-time students enrolled on the Salem campus and 2,800 worldwide. Athletically, it is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics competing in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. History The institution was established in 1935 in Phoenix, Arizona as the Phoenix Bible Institute by Evangelist Leland Entrekin and Roy Bancroft. The college moved in 1946 to Oakland, California and took the name Western Baptist Bible College, affiliated with the General Association of Regular Baptist Churches (GARBC). In 1969, the college moved to Salem, Oregon. In July 1969, the administrators paid $5,000 as a down payment for the 100 acre campus. The down payment was then adopted as the college's new address: 5000 Deer Park Drive. The transaction was personally overseen and signed by then Oregon Governor Tom McCall. In Judaism, the korban ( ''qorbān''), also spelled ''qorban'' or ''corban'', is any of a variety of sacrificial offerings described and commanded in the Torah. The plural form is korbanot, korbanoth or korbans. The term Korban primarily refers to sacrificial offerings given from humans to God for the purpose of doing homage, winning favor, or securing pardon. The object sacrificed was usually an animal that was ritually slaughtered and then transferred from the human to the divine realm by being burned on an altar. After the destruction of the Second Temple, sacrifices were prohibited because there was no longer a Temple, the only place allowed by halakha for sacrifices. Offering of sacrifices was briefly reinstated during the Jewish–Roman wars of the second century AD and was continued in certain communities thereafter. ''Qurbanī'' ( ar, قربانى), ''Qurban'', or ''uḍḥiyah'' () as referred to in Islamic law, is a ritual animal sacrifice of a livestock animal during Eid al-Adha. The concept and definition of the word is derived from the Qur'an, the sacred scripture of Muslims, and is the analog of korban in Judaism and kourbania in Christianity. While the word and concept are similar as in other Abrahamic religions, there is notably an opposition of the burnt offering, with the spoils of the sacrifice being distributed as food to the impoverished and family of the one making the offering for consumption. A commonly used word which may encompass qurban is ''uḍḥiyah'' (). Corban Reece Joseph (born October 28, 1988) is an American professional baseball second baseman who is currently a free agent. He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles, Oakland Athletics, San Francisco Giants, and Pittsburgh Pirates. Career Joseph attended Franklin High School in Franklin, Tennessee, where he played for the high school baseball team. In his sophomore year, he was named All-Midstate for baseball. Corban Knight (born September 10, 1990) is a Canadian professional ice hockey forward currently playing for Avangard Omsk of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). He was a fifth-round selection, 135th overall, by the Florida Panthers in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, but was traded to the Calgary Flames after the Panthers were unable to sign him to a contract. Knight played four seasons of college hockey with the University of North Dakota and was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award in 2012–13.
