The Coral Springs Open Invitational was a golf tournament on the PGA Tour that was played at the Coral Springs Country Club (now formally known as the Country Club of Coral Springs) in Coral Springs, Florida. It was played year only, 1970. Bill Garrett, who had never finished better than seventh in his previous five years on tour, won by one shot over Bob Murphy. Coral Springs, officially the City of Coral Springs, is a city in Broward County, Florida, United States. The city is located approximately northwest of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Fort Lauderdale. Stroke Play
Stroke play, also known as medal play, is a scoring system in the sport of golf in which the total number of strokes is counted over one or more rounds of 18 holes. In stroke play, the winner is the player who has taken the fewest strokes over the course of the round, or rounds. Although most professional tournaments are played using the stroke play scoring system, some notable exceptions exist. Bill Garrett (golfer)
William Frank Garrett (September 6, 1940 – February 25, 2010) was an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour in the 1960s and 1970s. Garrett was born in Amarillo, Texas. He graduated from North Texas State University in 1962. He turned professional in 1964. Garrett was a member of the PGA Tour from 1964–1979; he earned a living as a senior club professional after his days as a touring professional were over. Garrett won the 1970 Coral Springs Open Invitational by one stroke over Bob Murphy. His best finish in a major was a T-47 at the 1975 British Open. As a senior golfer, Garrett played in the PGA Senior Club Professional Championship several times finishing third in 1993, second in 1994 and T-3 in 1995. He lived in Grapevine, Texas in 1995 and Granbury, Texas at the time of his death in 2010. Bob Murphy (golfer)
Robert Joseph Murphy, Jr. (born February 14, 1943) is an American professional golfer who was formerly a member of the PGA Tour and currently plays on the Champions Tour. Murphy has won 21 tournaments as a professional. Early years Murphy was born in Brooklyn, New York. He was a standout pitcher in his youth, and as a teen led his high school baseball team to the state championship in 1960. After suffering a football injury (which also ended his baseball career), Murphy got started in golf.
