Coral Marathon
The Coral Marathon is a Listed flat horse race in Great Britain open to horses aged four years and over. It is run at Sandown over a distance of 2 mile and 50 yards (3,264 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in July. The race was first run in 2003 and is registered as the ''Esher Stakes''. It takes place at the same meeting as Sandown Park's most prestigious and valuable flat race, the Eclipse Stakes. Persian Punch
Persian Punch (1993–2004) was a Thoroughbred racehorse trained in the United Kingdom. He was frequently heralded by the Racing Post and his fans as the most popular horse in training during the final years of his career and had his own fan club and website. He was sired by Persian Heights and was out of Rum Cay who was trained by Roger Curtis at Lambourn, Berkshire. He had a half brother by Mozart, Classic Punch. Persian Punch was trained throughout his racing career by David Elsworth at Whitsbury Manor Racing Stables, Fordingbridge, Wiltshire, England. His most famous stablemate was Desert Orchid, retired by then but still leading out the 2 year olds. Cavalryman (horse)
Cavalryman (9 May 2006 – 28 February 2015) was a British-bred Thoroughbred racehorse. In eight seasons of racing he won ten times from thirty-nine starts in six countries, namely France, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and Australia. Beginning his career in France he won one race as a juvenile but developed to become one of the best colts of his generation in 2009, winning the Prix Matchem, Grand Prix de Paris and Prix Niel as well as running third in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. After being transferred to the British/ Emirati stable of Saeed bin Suroor he failed to win a race for the next two years but recovered his form when switched to competing over extended distances. He won the Grand Cup and Coral Marathon in 2012, the Dubai Gold Cup in 2013 and the Nad Al Sheba Trophy, Princess of Wales's Stakes and Goodwood Cup in 2014 at the age of eight. Yibir (foaled 14 April 2018) is a Champion British Thoroughbred racehorse. He showed considerable promise as a juvenile in 2020 when he won two of his four races including the Haynes, Hanson & Clark Stakes. He was beaten in his first three starts as a three-year-old and was subsequently gelded. On his return to the track he improved to become a top-class turf performer, winning the Bahrain Trophy, Great Voltigeur Stakes, Jockey Club Derby and Breeders' Cup Turf. Robert Hornby (born 28 May 1995) is a British jockey who competes in flat racing as a freelance, achieving notable victories for trainers Andrew Balding and Ralph Beckett. Background Hornby grew up on a farm in Chelmarsh, Shropshire, and attended Bridgnorth Endowed School, leaving at the age of sixteen to become an apprentice at the Kingsclere yard of Andrew Balding. Career Hornby achieved his first Group race success on 25 August 2018 when he rode the Balding-trained Maid Up to victory in the Group 3 March Stakes at Goodwood. Ed Dunlop
Edward A. L. Dunlop (born 20 October 1968) is a British thoroughbred horse trainer, racehorse trainer. Dunlop is the son of British champion trainer John L. Dunlop, John Dunlop. He was educated at Sunningdale School and Eton College. He began his career on stud farms in Ireland and Kentucky before completing the National Stud student course in Sydney, Australia. Upon returning to Britain he spent three years as assistant to Nicky Henderson, then joined Alex Scott (racehorse trainer), Alex Scott at his Newmarket Stables. When Scott was murdered in 1994 Dunlop took over and renamed the business Gainsborough Stables. The new stable had its first winner on 19 October 1994 and since then has sent entrants to races as far-flung as Istanbul, Dubai, Milan, Ireland and the United States. Henry II Stakes
The Henry II Stakes is a Group 3 flat horse race in Great Britain open to horses aged four years or older. It is run at Sandown Park over a distance of 2 miles and 50 yards (), and it is scheduled to take place each year in late May. History The event is named after Henry II, who founded a priory on the site of Sandown Park in the 12th century. It was established in 1963, and the inaugural running was won by Gaul. The present system of race grading was introduced in 1971, and for a period the Henry II Stakes held Group 3 status. It was promoted to Group 2 in 2002, and relegated back to Group 3 in 2012. The leading horses from the Henry II Stakes often go on to compete in the following month's Gold Cup at Ascot. The last to win both in the same year was Big Orange in 2017. Dermot Weld
Dermot K. Weld (born 29 July 1948), a former jockey is one of Ireland's most successful racehorse trainers. He holds the record for the most winners trained in Ireland (2,578 set in August 2000). Weld maintains his stable, Rosewell House, in Curragh, Ireland. He is married, with two sons. Irish bookmakers, Paddy Power, tried to launch a campaign to change the name of the Galway Races to the Dermot Weld Retirement Fund Races; however, it proved to be unsuccessful. Hughie Morrison
Hughie Morrison is a British racehorse trainer who specialises in training horses competing in Flat racing. Morrison is the son of James Morrison, 2nd Baron Margadale, and was educated at Eton College. He was advised by the trainer Henry Cecil to see life outside racing before training and initially worked in the pharmaceutical industry and ran a lighting company in Manchester. He began training horses in 1997 having bought a stable at East Ilsley the previous September, after a two-year period as assistant trainer to Paul Cole. His first major success came in National Hunt racing but he has subsequently concentrated on Flat racing. In February 2022, Morrison trained his 1000th winner.
