Upper Hunter is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. The seat is currently held by Dave Layzell for the National Party after he was elected at a by-election to replace Michael Johnsen. Upper Hunter covers the entirety of Dungog Shire, Muswellbrook Shire, Upper Hunter Shire, Liverpool Plains Shire (excluding the area around Werris Creek), the northern half of Singleton Shire (including Singleton itself), northeastern Mid-Western Regional Council (including Bylong) and part of Mid-Coast Council. The Division of Lyne is an Australian electoral division in the state of New South Wales. Geography Since 1984, federal electoral division boundaries in Australia have been determined at redistributions by a redistribution committee appointed by the Australian Electoral Commission. Redistributions occur for the boundaries of divisions in a particular state, and they occur every seven years, or sooner if a state's representation entitlement changes or when divisions of a state are malapportioned. History The division is named after Sir William Lyne, Premier of New South Wales at the time of Federation. He was commissioned by the first Governor-General, Lord Hopetoun to form the inaugural Federal Government, but was unable to attract sufficient support to form a cabinet and returned the commission. Mildred Muscio
Florence Mildred Muscio (28 April 1882 – 17 August 1964) was an Australian activist for the rights of women and children, feminist and school principal. Early life and education Muscio was born Florence Mildred Fry on 28 April 1882 at Copeland, a village near Gloucester in the Upper Hunter region of New South Wales. She was the eldest daughter of Charles and Jane (née McLennan) Fry. She completed her secondary education at Sydney Girls' High, where she was head of school in 1897 and won matriculation honours. She graduated with a BA (Hons) from the University of Sydney in 1901, and was awarded Professor Anderson's prize for logic and mental philosophy. She then undertook an MA in ethics, graduating in 1905 from the same university. Career From 1902 to 1912 Muscio was principal of Brighton College at Manly. In 1906 Dunn and Co published a 31-page book by Muscio and her sister Edith Fry titled ''Poems'' which was described by ''The Sydney Morning Herald'' as "several pl ... Copeland Tops State Conservation Area
The Copeland Tops State Conservation Area is a protected conservation area located near the Barrington Tops in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia. The is situated west of Gloucester. Features Relics of the "Mountain Maid" gold mine may be visited with a tour guide. Gold was discovered by timber collectors in 1875. By 1878, around one thousand people were living in the area. Most of the gold mining activity had ceased by 1890.Information Sign, NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service At the end of 1886, the Mountain Maid mine yielded of gold. And the Hidden Treasure mine yielded . Flora include wet sclerophyll eucalyptus forest and a unique "dry" rainforest.
