Cootamundra West Railway Station
Cootamundra West railway station is a heritage-listed former railway station on the Lake Cargelligo line at Cootamundra, Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council, New South Wales, Australia. The property was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. History The station opened in 1911. NSWrail.net, accessed 14 August 2009. The station has been closed since 1983 when passenger services along the branch were withdrawn, although freight service continues. Description The station complex consists of a double-storey, type 11 brick station building and brick-faced platform dating from 1911 as well as a former refreshment room. Cootamundra, New South Wales
Cootamundra, nicknamed Coota, is a town in the South West Slopes region of New South Wales, Australia and within the Riverina. It is within the Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council. At the 2016 Census, Cootamundra had a population of 6,782. It is located on the Olympic Highway at the point where it crosses the Muttama Creek, between Junee and Cowra. Its railway station is on the Main Southern line, part of the Melbourne-to-Sydney line. Cootamundra is the birthplace of Sir Donald Bradman , an Australian cricketer universally regarded as the greatest batsman of all time. Lake Cargelligo Railway Line, New South Wales
The Lake Cargelligo railway line is a railway line in Central Western New South Wales, Australia. The first sod was turned commencing construction on 8 June 1913 with the line opening on 13 November 1917. The line branches from the Main South line at Cootamundra and travels in a north-westerly direction to the small town of Lake Cargelligo. The line is used primarily for grain haulage, although passenger service was provided until 1983. The section between Cootamundra and Stockinbingal forms part of the cross country line between the Main South and Broken Hill line, which allows goods trains to bypass Sydney. In December 2007, flooding washed away several sections of track between Ungarie and Lake Cargelligo rendering the track unpassable. The rail line has since then been repaired between Ungarie and Lake Cargelligo rendering the tracks open. The New South Wales State Heritage Register, also known as NSW State Heritage Register, is a heritage list of places in the state of New South Wales, Australia, that are protected by New South Wales legislation, generally covered by the Heritage Act 1977 and its 2010 amendments. The register is administered by the Heritage Council of NSW via Heritage NSW, a division of the Government of New South Wales Department of Planning and Environment. The register was created in 1999 and includes items protected by heritage schedules that relate to the State, and to regional and to local environmental plans.
