Cooper Arms Apartments
Cooper Arms Apartments is a registered historic building located on Ocean Boulevard in downtown Long Beach, California. The twelve-story Renaissance Revival apartment tower was built in 1923. It was one of the first structures to be designated a Long Beach Historical Landmark when the city launched its historic preservation program in 1980, and it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2000. It is currently operated as condominiums. Description and architecture Cooper Arms is a twelve-story steel-reinforced concrete building with exterior walls of brick finished with stucco. Located on Ocean Boulevard (at the corner of Linden Avenue) in the East Village near downtown Long Beach, the structure was designed by Los Angeles architects Curlett & Beelman. Jergins Trust Building
The Jergins Trust Building was a 10-story Beaux-Arts style commercial building in Long Beach, California, built in 1919. The building contained office space and a ground-floor theatre and was known for its façade featuring terra-cotta shields and gargoyles. In spite of being one of Long Beach's designated historic landmarks, the building was demolished in 1988. History First known as the Markwell Building after its founder and designed in the Beaux-Arts style, the building was built in 1919 and initially included six stories and a theatre which hosted acts such as Fred Astaire. The building was sold in 1925 to A.T. Jergins, who added four additional stories to the building in 1929. The first Superior Court branch in California occupied space in the building. Rancho Los Alamitos
Rancho Los Alamitos takes its name from an 1834 Mexican partition of the 1784 Rancho Los Nietos, a Spanish concession, covering an area in present-day California's southwestern Los Angeles County and northwestern Orange County. Los Alamitos means the Little Cottonwoods or Poplars in Spanish, after the native Fremont Cottonwood trees there. Rancho Los Alamitos originally included much of the area of present-day eastern Long Beach, all of Los Alamitos and Rossmoor, and most of Seal Beach, Cypress, Stanton and Garden Grove. First Congregational Church is a church of the United Church of Christ located in downtown Long Beach, California. The church occupies a historic red brick structure that was built in 1914. The Italian Romanesque Revival building has been designated as a Long Beach Historic Landmark and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2012. Construction and architecture The church was founded in 1888. The current church building, designed in the Italian Romanesque style, was completed in 1914 at a total cost of $210,000. Joachim Bixby Sr., known as the "Father of Long Beach," was the largest contributor to the construction fund, having given $25,000. The building was designed in the Romanesque style by architect H.M. Villa Riviera (ital. beach) is a registered historic building on Ocean Boulevard in the Alamitos Beach neighborhood of Long Beach, California, United States. From the time of its completion in 1929 through the mid-1950s, it was the second-tallest building, and the tallest private building, in Southern California. The 16-story Châteauesque building has been called the city's "most elegant landmark" and a building that "has helped define the city." Lake Henshaw
Lake Henshaw is a reservoir in San Diego County, California at the southeast base of Palomar Mountain, approximately northeast of San Diego, California and southeast of Los Angeles. The 1933 Long Beach earthquake took place on March 10 at south of downtown Los Angeles. The epicenter was offshore, southeast of Long Beach, California, on the Newport–Inglewood Fault.
