Cooma Monaro Railway
The Cooma Monaro Railway is a heritage railway museum that is actively restoring the Cooma Railway Precinct while working on the restoration of tourist trains along the section of track on the Bombala line between Cooma and the terminus at Bombala in New South Wales, Australia. Restoration of the track within the yard at Cooma is currently being restored along with the section north to Snowy Junction. The Cooma Monaro Railway Museum, including the Travel for Pleasure exhibit will open in December 2022 at Cooma Railway Station with tourist trains expected to return in 2023. The railway also run a monthly fresh produce market on the second Sunday of the month at Cooma Railway Station. CPH Railmotor
The CPH (or 42 foot) rail motors were introduced by the New South Wales Government Railways in 1923 to provide feeder service on country branch lines. Tumut
Tumut () is a town in the Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia, situated on the banks of the Tumut River. Tumut sits on the north-west foothills of the Snowy Mountains and is located on the traditional lands of the Wiradjuri, Wolgalu and Ngunnawal Aboriginal peoples. Tumut is often referred to as the 'gateway to the snowy' Snowy Mountains Scheme. The former Tumut Shire was administered from offices located in the town. Tumut is approximately south-west of Sydney and north-east of Melbourne. New South Wales FP Paybuses
The FP paybuses were a series of thirteen small 4 wheel railbuses built for the Department of Railways New South Wales between 1937 and 1970. The rail buses were intended for use on branch lines whose low passenger numbers did not warrant the use of a larger railmotor. FP1 FP1 was designed by the Road Motor Vehicles section of the Department of Railways & constructed by Waddingtons. It was placed into service on 7 July 1937. It was originally powered by a Ford Mercury V8 side-valve petrol engine with a 4-speed truck-style gear box and two fuel tanks. Entry was via a central door on one side only and had seating for 17 persons. The driving position was at one end only with the driver sitting on the right hand side beside the engine. The rail bus was fitted with diameter wheels with a long wheelbase. The body was long and wide. The 620/720 class railcars were a class of diesel multiple unit built by the New South Wales Government Railways and operated from 1961 until 2007. Construction The 620/720 class railcars were an evolution of the 600/700 railcars that had been built in 1949/50. Like their predecessors they were built with an aluminium body on a steel frame at the New South Wales Government Railways' Chullora Railway Workshops. Bombala Railway Line
The Bombala railway line is a branch railway line in the south of New South Wales, Australia. The northern part of it forms part of the main line from Sydney to Canberra, but the southern part is closed. It branches off the Main South line at Joppa Junction, south of Goulburn. The Numeralla River, a perennial river that is part of the Murrumbidgee catchment within the Murray–Darling basin, is located in the Monaro region of New South Wales, Australia. The name of the river is claimed to derive from an Aboriginal word meaning "valley of plenty", but Flavia Hodges has called this etymology "highly suspect". ''Railway Digest'' is a monthly magazine, published in Sydney, covering contemporary railways of Australia. Overview The magazine's publisher is the Australian Railway Historical Society (ARHS), NSW Division. The first issue was published in March 1963 under the name ''New South Wales Digest'' and regular publication commenced with the May 1963 edition. It was renamed in January 1983. In January 1985 it changed paper size from SRA5 to A4.
