Coolah Shire
Coolah Shire was a former local government area in New South Wales, Australia from 1906 to 1994. It was established under the ''Local Government (Shires) Act 1905'' with effect from 7 March 1906. The shire offices were based in the small town of Coolah. The shire also included the towns of Dunedoo, Mendooran and Leadville, as well as the smaller settlements of Cobbora, Merrygoen, Neilrex and Uarbry. It absorbed part of the abolished Gulgong Shire on 1 January 1957. Local Government (Shires) Act 1905
Local Government (Shires) Act 1905 was a landmark New South Wales statute notable for the compulsory incorporation of local government areas for around 40% of the area of New South Wales. The Act created 134 rural shires, many surrounding a small urban area separately and voluntarily incorporated under the ''Municipalities Act 1858'' and the following '' Municipalities Act 1867'' and '' Municipalities Act 1897'' As well as the compulsory incorporation of rural areas, the ''Local Government (Shires) Act'' repealed the ''Municipalities Act'' - bringing local government under one legislative framework. Coolah is a town in the central western part of New South Wales, Australia in Warrumbungle Shire. At the 2016 census, Coolah had a population of 1,290. Dunedoo, New South Wales
Dunedoo ( ) is a village of 1,021 inhabitants situated within the Warrumbungle Shire of central western New South Wales, Australia. Dunedoo is well known to Australian travellers due to its distinctive name (''Dunny'' is a colloquial Australian word for a toilet). The name is actually derived from a local Aboriginal word meaning "swan", which are commonly found in the area's lagoons. The town is located on the north-western edges of the Sydney basin. Geography and features Dunedoo is located above sea-level on the southern bank of the Talbragar River at the intersection of the Golden and Castlereagh Highways. It is a relatively isolated township with the two nearest rural centres of Mudgee and Dubbo situated approximately to the south and west respectively. Mendooran, New South Wales
Mendooran (pronunciation: ''men-door-an'') is a small town adjacent to the Castlereagh River in the Warrumbungle Shire of central western New South Wales, Australia. The town lies at an altitude of 271 metres above sea level, 348 kilometres west of Sydney, 75 kilometres from Dubbo and 71 kilometres southeast of Coonabarabran. At the 2011 census, Mendooran had a population of 302 people. The Castlereagh Highway also runs through the town, changing its name to Bandulla Street in the centre. History The district was inhabited by the Wiradjuri tribe before white settlement. The first European to visit the area was surveyor John Evans who came as close as 10 kilometres from Mendooran in 1815. Leadville is a town in New South Wales, Australia. The town is located in the Warrumbungle Shire local government area, north west of the state capital, Sydney. At the 2016 census, Leadville and the surrounding area had a population of 169. History Aboriginal history The site of modern-day Leadville lies on the traditional lands of the Wiradjuri people, close to the lands of the neighbouring Kamilaroi people that lie to the north and east. Cobbora, New South Wales
Cobbora is an almost defunct village in New South Wales, Australia. The name of the locality was also spelled Cobborah. Cobbora was established where the original track from Mudgee to Mendooran crossed the Talbragar River. In the late 1800s, it had a police station and was considered to be the main locality on the Talbragar. Cobb & Co coaches travelled through Cobbora twice a week in 1876 to 1879. However, in 1910 the railway took a route via Dunedoo which bypassed Cobbora, and the village went into a terminal decline.
