La Cuisinière
La Cuisinière is a song written by Mary Bolduc and released by the Starr Record Company on her fourth record, alongside '' Johnny Monfarleau''. Although it was her fourth release, this was her first record to achieve any commercial success. ''La Cuisinière'' was very successful, selling twelve thousand copies in Quebec, which was unprecedented sales for a record at the time. The success of the song made Bolduc a household name in Quebec. The song tells of the encounters of a domestic servant with various suitors. The overall tone is humorous. This follows a long tradition of French comedic folk songs dealing with rejected suitors. The lyrics are set in five versus, each of four lines. Each verse ends with the phrase: ''Hourra pour la cuisinière''. The general rhyming scheme is rhyming couplets, with the first two and second two lines of each verse rhyming. The last two lines do not rhyme, however. The melody follows an AABC pattern, where A, B and C are musical phras ...

Electoral District Of Cook
Cook is an electoral district in Queensland, Australia. Cook covers the vast Cape York Peninsula north of Cairns, including the resort town of Port Douglas and the Torres Strait Islands. It is named after British navigator James Cook, who charted the coast and landed on Possession Island – one of the Torres Strait islands – in 1770. History 1883 election In the 1883 election, there were four candidates for the (then) two-member electorate. They were: * Thomas Campbell * Frederick Cooper (one of the sitting members) * John Hamilton * Charles Lumley Hill (a former member in Gregory) Cooper and Hamilton were elected, but there were allegations of "ballot stuffing", specifically that there were too many votes cast at the California Gully and Halpin's Creek polling stations given the number of electors. The unsuccessful candidates, Campbell and Hill, petitioned to overturn the ballot. In December 1883, arrests were made in connection with the ballot stuffing. On 4 Mar ...

Division Of Cook
The Division of Cook is an Australian electoral division in the State of New South Wales. History Cook was created in 1969, mostly out of the Liberal-leaning areas of neighbouring Hughes. It was thus a natural choice for that seat's one-term Liberal member, Don Dobie, to transfer after the creation of Cook erased his majority in Hughes. The division was named in honour of James Cook, who mapped the east coast of Australia in 1770. In 2006, the Australian Electoral Commission's Redistribution Committee for New South Wales proposed that the division be jointly named for Joseph Cook, the sixth Prime Minister of Australia from 1913 to 1914. However as of 2022 no such action has been taken, and therefore Joseph Cook remains the only eligible Prime Minister who does not have a federal electorate named after him. For most of the first quarter-century of its existence, Cook was a marginal to fairly safe Liberal seat; it has been in Liberal hands for all but two terms. The Liberal ...

Cook Codec
{{Unreferenced, date=April 2010 The cook codec is a lossy audio compression codec developed by RealNetworks. It is also known as Cooker, Gecko, RealAudio G2, and RealAudio 8 low bitrate (RA8LBR). Introduced in 1998, the cook codec was the first audio codec developed by RealNetworks in-house, and was named after its author, Ken Cooke. The design was largely based on G.722.1. It is a pure transform codec based on the modified discrete cosine transform with a single block size. In 2003, RealNetworks introduced a surround sound version of cook, called RealAudio Multichannel. This was initially designated by the four-character code 'whrl', but is now identified as 'cook', as mono/stereo files are. Although RealNetworks never published a technical description of the cook codec, others have reverse engineered the format, and as of December 2005, FFmpeg libavcodec contains a decoder capable of playing cook-encoded files. As of July 2009, Rockbox is capable of playing cook-encoded file ...
