The Converge FiberXers are a professional basketball team owned by Converge ICT. The team competes in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). The franchise began after acquiring the former Alaska Aces franchise on March 23, 2022. History On February 16, 2022, Alaska Milk Corporation (AMC) announced that the Alaska Aces will leave the PBA at the end of the 2021 Governors' Cup. This was due to a directive by FrieslandCampina, parent company of AMC. Several companies expressed interest to buy the Aces or its franchise. The prospect company could retain the Alaska Aces team if they bought the franchise within the ongoing season. In the event the franchise is not sold within the ongoing season, the PBA would place the players in a dispersal draft. On March 23, the PBA announced the sale of the Alaska Aces to Converge ICT. Dennis Anthony Uy
Dennis Anthony H. Uy is a Filipino businessman who is known for being the founder of Converge ICT. Early life and education Dennis Anthony Uy was born on June 1, 1966, in Fukien (now Fujian), China. In China, the Uys lived in poverty with one meal a day already considered "a blessing". When he moved in, he could not speak English nor Tagalog. Dennis Uy and his family emigrated to the Philippines in 1977 with the help of his uncle Johnny Uy. At age 11, Uy worked as a cold storage handyman at Johnny's Supermarket, which was considered as the oldest supermarket in Angeles City and was run by his uncle. The younger Uy spent his studies in Angeles City, attending Chevalier School for his high school studies and the Holy Angel University where he graduated with a degree in electrical engineering in 1992. Jeffrey Cariaso
Jeffrey Joaquin Cariaso is a Filipino-American coach and retired professional basketball player. He is the former head coach of the Converge FiberXers of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). He also played for various PBA teams, mostly with Alaska, for 15 seasons. He is known as "The Jet". He is also the basketball operations director of Slam Magazine Philippines. Playing career Alaska He was first drafted by the Alaska Aces (then known as the Alaska Milkmen) during the 1995 PBA draft as the sixth overall. During his rookie year, he won the Rookie of the Year Award. The 2022–23 PBA Commissioner's Cup also known as the 2022–23 Honda PBA Commissioner's Cup for sponsorship reasons, is the second conference of the 2022–23 PBA season of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). The 2022 PBA Philippine Cup, also known as the 2022 Honda PBA Philippine Cup for sponsorship reasons, was the first conference of the 2022–23 PBA season of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). This is a list of Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) conferences. Conferences are tournaments within a season, as opposed to the North American usage where a conference is a grouping of teams. If a team wins all of the conferences in a season, it is said that they have won a Grand Slam. Types of conferences As of the 2015–16 season, there is a total of 117 conferences/tournaments held by the PBA since 1975. It was further broken down into three categories: # All Filipino conferences - only players with Filipino citizenship are allowed to compete. The 2022–23 PBA season or PBA Season 47 is the 47th season of the Philippine Basketball Association. For the first time in two seasons, the league will return to its regular three-conference format, starting with the Philippine Cup. The Commissioner's and Governors' Cups are the second and third conferences in the upcoming season. After the PBA adjusted its calendar again, the association's 47th season was set to start on June 5, 2022, and scheduled to end on May 10, 2023. Dickie Bachmann
Richard "Dickie" Bachmann (born 1968 or 1969) is a Filipino sports executive and former basketball player who serves as the chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC). Education Bachmann attended De La Salle University from 1986 to 1991 graduating with a degree in commerce. Career Playing career Bachmann also played for the Green Archers, the De La Salle University's varsity team when he was in college. He was also part of the Alaska Milkmen of the Philippine Basketball Association. He joined the team in the 1993 PBA Draft at age 25. Sports administration Bachmann was the basketball commissioner of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) having overseen Season 85. TNT Tropang Giga
The TNT (cellular service), TNT Tropang Giga is a professional basketball team currently owned by Smart Communications, a subsidiary of the PLDT, Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT), playing in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) since 1990. The franchise began in 1990 when Pepsi Philippines, Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines, Inc. (PCPPI) acquired a PBA franchise. Under PCPPI, the franchise played under the names Pepsi and 7 Up.
