Convento De La Merced
San Pedro is a Roman Catholic parish church located in the town of Valdunquillo, province of Valladolid, Spain. The church was adjacent to the convent of Nuestra Señora de la Merced Descalza. The church once was dedicated to Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación. The convent was established in 1607. Made of brick, the church was built in the 18th century. The main retablo is from the 18th century. Valdunquillo
Valdunquillo is a municipality located in the province of Valladolid, Castile and León, Spain. According to the 2004 census (INE), the municipality has a population of 179 inhabitants. The town's residents traditionally call themselves "lechugeros," a testament to the fact that the town had a good reputation for cultivating lettuce. Valdunquillo is adjacent to the towns La Unión de Campos, Villalogán, Bolaños de Campos, Valderas, Medina de Rioseco, and Villavicencio de los Caballeros. History Valdunquillo has been occupied by Christians, Jews, and Muslims. However, archaeological evidence shows that the area was likely first inhabited by the Vaccaei. Valladolid () is a province of northwest Spain, in the central part of the autonomous community of Castile and León. A retablo is a devotional painting, especially a small popular or folk art one using iconography derived from traditional Catholic church art. More generally ''retablo'' is also the Spanish term for a retable or reredos above an altar, whether a large altarpiece painting or an elaborate wooden structure with sculptures. Typically this includes painting, sculpture or a combination of the two, and an elaborate framework enclosing it. The Latin etymology of the Spanish word means "board behind". Antonio De Pereda
Antonio de Pereda y Salgado ( – January 30, 1678) was a Spanish Baroque-era painter, best known for his still lifes. Biography Pereda was born in Valladolid, the eldest of three brothers from an artistic family. His father, mother and two brothers were all painters. He was educated in Madrid by Pedro de las Cuevas and was taken under the protective wing of the influential Giovanni Battista Crescenzi. As well as still lifes and religious paintings, Pereda was known for his historical paintings such as the ''Relief of Genoa'' (1635), depicting a historical event of the 1620s. This was painted for the Salón de Reinos of the Buen Retiro Palace in Madrid as part of the same series as Velázquez's '' Surrender of Breda''.
