Americans in Pakistan (Urdu: امریکی ) form a sizeable expatriate community. According to Pakistan's Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control, Ministry of Interior, there were 52,486 Americans residing in Pakistan in 2015. Some of them are Pakistani Americans who have returned to Pakistan. Many Pakistani Americans returned during the unstable conditions post-September 11 attacks and the global financial crisis. The Consulate General of the United States is a diplomatic mission of the United States in Peshawar, Pakistan. It operates under the U.S. embassy in Islamabad and serves U.S. consular interests in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region. The current consul-general is William Martin, appointed in 2012. Location The consulate is located at 11 Hospital Road in the Peshawar Cantonment area. History On 5 April 2010, a bombing near the consulate killed 8 people including 2 security personnel, although no Americans were affected. A detonator, frequently a blasting cap, is a device used to trigger an explosive device. Detonators can be chemically, mechanically, or electrically initiated, the last two being the most common.
