Construction Battalion Maintenance Unit 302
Construction Battalion Maintenance Unit THREE ZERO TWO (CBMU-302) of the U.S. Navy was commissioned on 31 March 1967. Along with a sister unit, CBMU-301,CBMU 302 Cruisebook 1967-69, NHHA, Seabee Museum, Port Hueneme, C/ref> was also commissioned. They were the first CBMUs commissioned since the two that came and went with the Korean War. The official commissioning ceremony of CBMU-301 and CBMU-302 was held at the Naval Base Ventura County, U.S. Naval Construction Battalion Center, Port Hueneme, CA on 7 April 1967. Cat Lo Naval Base
Cat Lo Naval Base is a former United States Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, and Republic of Vietnam Navy (RVNN) base approximately northeast of Vũng Tàu in southern Vietnam that was used during the Vietnam War. History In October 1965, the U.S. Navy selected Cat Lo as the base for Swift Boat Squadron 1, Division 103 with 14 Swift Boats to be based there with berthing, messing and basic repair facilities. Dredging to build the base facilities eventually took 3 years and it housed over 600 personnel. Grande Island
Fort Wint was part of the harbor defenses of Manila and Subic Bays built by the Philippine Department of the United States Army between 1907 and 1920 in response to recommendations of the Taft Board prior to the non-fortification clause of the Washington Naval Treaty. Fort Wint was located on Grande Island at the entrance of Subic Bay, approximately 35 miles (56 km) north of Manila Bay. The fort was named for Brigadier General Theodore J. Wint. Operation New Life (23 April – 1 November 1975) was the care and processing on Guam of Vietnamese refugees evacuated before and after the Fall of Saigon, the closing day of the Vietnam War. More than 111,000 of the evacuated 130,000 Vietnamese refugees were transported to Guam, where they were housed in tent cities for a few weeks while being processed for resettlement. Subic Bay is a bay on the west coast of the island of Luzon in the Philippines, about northwest of Manila Bay. Cubi Point Naval Air Station
U.S. Naval Air Station Cubi Point was a United States Navy aerial facility located at the edge of Naval Base Subic Bay and abutting the Bataan Peninsula in the Philippines. When the base closed, the air station became the Subic Bay International Airport and is still operating today. Background During the Korean War, Admiral Arthur W. Radford, Chief of Naval Operations saw the need for a naval air station at Cubi Point. It was a rugged and jungle-covered finger of land from Subic Naval Base.
