Conservation Science In Cultural Heritage
''Conservation Science in Cultural Heritage'' is a Peer review, peer-reviewed open access academic journal. It is published by the Department of Cultural Heritage of the Alma Mater Studiorum, University of Bologna. Its scope is both historical and technical, covering conservation science (cultural heritage), conservation science for cultural heritage. Articles are in English and Italian, with summaries in English, French, German, Italian, Russian, Spanish, and Armenian. The journal was established by professor Salvatore Lorusso, director of the Laboratory for Cultural Heritage in the Department of Cultural Heritage, in 2001, as ''Quaderni di Scienze della conservazione'', and obtained its current name in 2007. In 2012, the journal acquired class A status in the evaluation lists published by the "National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes". Conservation Science (cultural Heritage)
With respect to cultural property, conservation science is the interdisciplinary study of the conservation of art, architecture, technical art history and other cultural works through the use of scientific inquiry. General areas of research include the technology and structure of artistic and historic works. In other words, the materials and techniques from which cultural, artistic and historic objects are made. There are three broad categories of conservation science with respect to cultural heritage: 1) understanding the materials and techniques used by artists, 2) study of the causes of deterioration, and 3) improving methods/techniques and materials for examination and treatment. Cultural heritage is the heritage of tangible and intangible heritage assets of a group or society that is inherited from past generations. Salvatore Lorusso
Salvatore Lorusso ( fl. 1970s–2020s) is a former professor of Environmental Chemistry and Cultural Heritage in the Department of Cultural Heritage at the University of Bologna, and founder of the journal, '' Conservation Science in Cultural Heritage''. He has also been named a Foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, and an Emeritus Professor of the Institute of Cultural Heritage of Zhejiang University in China. In the mid-2010s, Lorusso oversaw the restoration of Buddhist sculptures from the Qingzhou Longxing Temple in Zhejiang. Lorusso has also written on the Shroud of Turin, and several articles on Leonardo da Vinci, particularly on the ''Mona Lisa'', and examining evidence of the ''Isleworth Mona Lisa'' also being by Leonardo.
