Conrich, Alberta
Conrich is a hamlet in southern Alberta under the jurisdiction of Rocky View County. Conrich is located east of the City of Calgary's eastern limits and approximately northeast of Downtown Calgary on McKnight Boulevard. It has been anticipated that the hamlet will eventually be annexed by Calgary. However, Calgary's 2007 annexation did not move its eastern limits closer to the hamlet. Conrich got its start as a flag station for the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway. A flag station was exactly that: passengers wanting to board had to flag the train down. The land for the site was obtained from W.F. Birch. The railroad reached here in 1913, and the name comes from the surnames of two real estate developers, Connacher and Richardson . The Canadian National Railway took over the line in 1918. That year, a 30,000 bushel grain elevator was also built. A post office operated at this site from August 15, 1925, to December 12, 1960. Demographics In the 2021 Census of Population conducted ...

Alberta has provincial legislation allowing its municipalities to conduct municipal censuses between April 1 and June 30 inclusive. Grand Trunk Pacific Railway
The Grand Trunk Pacific Railway was a historic Canadian transcontinental railway running from Fort William, Ontario (now Thunder Bay) to Prince Rupert, British Columbia, a Pacific coast port. East of Winnipeg the line continued as the National Transcontinental Railway (NTR), running across northern Ontario and Quebec, crossing the St. Lawrence River at Quebec City and ending at Moncton, New Brunswick. The Grand Trunk Railway (GTR) managed and operated the entire line. Largely constructed 1907–14, the GTPR operated 1914–19, prior to nationalization as the Canadian National Railway (CNR). Despite poor decision-making by the various levels of government and the railway management, the GTPR established local employment opportunities, a telegraph service, and freight, passenger and mail transportation. Proposal After the ouster of Edward Watkin, the GTR declined in 1870 and 1880 to build Canada's first transcontinental railway. Subsequently, the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) tra ...

Flag Station
In public transport, a request stop, flag stop, or whistle stop is a stop or station at which buses or trains, respectively, stop only on request; that is, only if there are passengers or freight to be picked up or dropped off. In this way, stops with low passenger counts can be incorporated into a route without introducing unnecessary delay. Vehicles may also save fuel by continuing through a station when there is no need to stop. There may not always be significant savings on time if there is no one to pick up because vehicles going past a request stop may need to slow down enough to be able to stop if there are passengers waiting. Request stops may also introduce extra travel time variability and increase the need for schedule padding. The appearance of request stops varies greatly. Many are clearly signed, but many others rely on local knowledge. Implementations The methods by which transit vehicles are notified that there are passengers waiting to be picked up at a reque ...
