Conrad The Sailor
''Conrad the Sailor'' is a 1942 Warner Bros. '' Merrie Melodies'' cartoon supervised by Chuck Jones. The title character, Conrad the Cat, is voiced by Pinto Colvig and animated by the quintet (Jones’ regular animators, including Ben Washam). The other featured player is Daffy Duck, voiced as usual by Mel Blanc. Plot The story takes place aboard a battleship staffed by anthropomorphic cats (which strangely look more like dogs with their small ears), most of whom are singing " The Song of the Marines (Shovin' Right Off Again)" as a chorale group. Cut to Conrad, who talks and sings exactly like Colvig's characterization of the Walt Disney character " Goofy". As Conrad swabs the deck, he is interrupted by Daffy when he spots the duck’s muddy footprints on the deck and Daffy on the mast, and he angrily mutters the song to himself. Chuck Jones
Charles Martin Jones (September 21, 1912 – February 22, 2002) was an American animator, director, and painter, best known for his work with Warner Bros. Cartoons on the ''Looney Tunes'' and ''Merrie Melodies'' series of shorts. He wrote, produced, and/or directed many classic animated cartoon, Animated Cartoon shorts starring Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner, Pepé Le Pew, and Porky Pig, among others. Jones started his career in 1933 alongside Tex Avery, Friz Freleng, Bob Clampett, and Robert McKimson at the Leon Schlesinger Production's Termite Terrace studio, where they created and developed the Looney Tunes characters. During the World War II, Second World War, Jones directed many of the ''Private Snafu'' (1943–1946) shorts which were shown to members of the United States military. After his career at Warner Bros. ended in 1962, Jones started MGM Animation/Visual Arts, Sib Tower 12 Productions and began producing cartoons for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, ... Gorilla
Gorillas are herbivorous, predominantly ground-dwelling great apes that inhabit the tropical forests of equatorial Africa. Daffy's Southern Exposure
''Daffy's Southern Exposure'' is a 1942 Warner Bros. '' Looney Tunes'' animated short directed by Norman McCabe. The cartoon was released on May 2, 1942, and stars Daffy Duck. Plot Daffy Duck decides not to fly south for the winter, as he wants to "check up on this winter business" (gesturing to a newspaper he is reading, with a scantily-clad "snow queen" pictured.) All the other ducks tell him " You'll be ''sorry!''", and continue flying south. Daffy initially marvels at the snow and ice that mark Winter's arrival, but as the conditions become progressively worse, he begins to starve and gets stranded in a snowstorm. In film, a match cut is a cut from one shot to another where the composition of the two shots are matched by the action or subject and subject matter. For example, in a duel a shot can go from a long shot on both contestants via a cut to a medium closeup shot of one of the duellists. The cut matches the two shots and is consistent with the logic of the action. This is a standard practice in film-making, to produce a seamless reality-effect. Wider context Match cuts form the basis for continuity editing, such as the ubiquitous use of match on action. Continuity editing smooths over the inherent discontinuity of shot changes to establish a logical coherence between shots.
