Conrad III Schetz
Conrad (or Coenraad) Schetz de Grobbendonck, later Conrad d'Ursel (1553–1632) was a nobleman in the Habsburg Netherlands and in 1604–1609 the first ordinary ambassador to England for the Archdukes Albert and Isabella. Ursel family The 5th son of Gaspard II Schetz and Catharina d'Ursel, daughter of Lancelot II of Ursel, he was baptised in Antwerp on 19 March 1553. His parents had 21 children in total, eight of whom survived to adulthood. He was the fifth son. His father was the chief banker in Antwerp, financing several merchants who traded to Russia and Brazil, as well as being banker to Philip II of Spain, which gave him a political role and made him a leading figure in the Antwerp of the second half of the 16th century. In 1617 he inherited the estates of his aunt, Barbara of Ursel, last heir of Lancelot II of Ursel, on the condition that he and his heirs in perpetuity change their name and coat of arms to d'Ursel. Louis Prosper Gachard
Louis Prosper Gachard (12 March 1800 – 24 December 1885), Belgian man of letters, was born in Paris. He entered the administration of the national archives in 1826, and was appointed director-general in 1831, a post which he held for fifty-five years. During this long period he reorganized the service, added to the records by copies taken in other European collections, travelled for purposes of study, and carried on a wide correspondence with other keepers of records, and with historical scholars. He also edited and published many valuable collections of state papers; a full list of his various publications was printed in the ''Annuaire de l'Académie royale de Belgique'' by Ch. Piot in 1888, pp. 220–236. It includes 246 entries. Estates General Of 1632
The Estates General of 1632 was a parliamentary assembly of representatives of the constituent provinces of the Habsburg Netherlands. It was the last such assembly. Crisis It had been over thirty years since a gathering of the Estates General had been convened by the Habsburg rulers in the Low Countries. In a situation of deep political crisis, the Governor-General, Infanta Isabella Clara Eugenia, called the Estates General to rally the political elites to the Habsburg cause. The letters convoking the assembly were sent on 30 July, with the date for the opening set as 7 September. The assembly was dissolved on 5 July 1634. Philippe-Charles, 3rd Count Of Arenberg
Philippe-Charles d'Arenberg (18 October 1587 in Barbancon – 25 September 1640 in Madrid) was the third sovereign prince of Arenberg and 6th Duke of Aarschot. He was a leading figure in the political life of the Spanish Netherlands. Life Arenberg was the son of Charles de Ligne, 2nd Prince of Arenberg and Anne de Croy, daughter of Philipe de Croÿ, Duke of Aerschot. He was named Duke of Aarschot in 1616, and attained the highest honors in the Habsburg Netherlands, including the Order of the Golden Fleece. As duke he was the first lord temporal in the States of Brabant, and in the Estates General of 1632. Conrad-Albert, 1st Duke D'Ursel
Conrad-Albert-Charles d'Ursel, 1st Duke d'Ursel and Hoboken (10 February 1665 – 3 May 1738) was a Dutch nobleman and general. Biography Conrad-Albert was born in Brussels to François, 2nd Count of Ursel. During his childhood, his father purchased the rank of captain for him. He fought under the service of Leopold I during the Great Turkish War. He also served in the Spanish army; he was appointed general of the armies in 1696. In 1704, Conrad-Albert was appointed Grand Bailiff of Hainault. In 1713, Conrad-Albert married Eléonore, Princess of Salm, in Roermond; as a gift for the marriage, he was gifted the title Baron of Wesemael by Charles-Hubert-Augustin Schetz, his cousin. Conrad-Albert and Eléonore had two children, Charles, 2nd Duke d'Ursel and Benoite-Charlotte, Count d'Ursel. Beernem (; vls, Beirnem) is a rural municipality in the Belgian province of West Flanders, located southeast of Bruges. The municipality comprises the towns of Beernem proper, Oedelem and Sint-Joris. Opdorp
Opdorp is one of the three towns making up the municipality of Buggenhout in East Flanders, Belgium. Sometimes it's classified in the Denderstreek. Opdorp is at the geographical centre of Flanders, Belgium. It is also the point at which three provinces meet: Brabant, Antwerp, and East Flanders. Opdorp developed around a triangular ''dries'' (village square). The ''dries'' contains a chapel and the village pump. The town hall, school and former monastery were built around the square.
