Connie Maxwell Children's Home is a residential group home headquartered in Greenwood, South Carolina, United States. Since 1892, Connie Maxwell Children’s Home has inspired thousands of children and families to dream of a brighter future while being cared for in a faith-filled, loving environment. With 5 locations across South Carolina, this ministry becomes a family to those who need it most, restoring hope through one of its core programs: Residential Care, Family Care, Foster Care, and Crisis Care. History W.W. Keys formally stated the call for an orphanage to be operated by South Carolina Baptists in a Baptist Courier editorial in 1888. Three years later a site was secured for the new orphanage, now a children's home, and it would be located in Greenwood, primarily through the generosity of Dr. J.C. Maxwell and his wife, Sarah. A group home, congregate living facility, or care home (the latter especially in British English and Australian English) is a residence model of medical care for those with complex health needs. Traditionally, the model has been used for children or young people who cannot live with their families or afford their own homes, people with chronic disabilities who may be adults or seniors, or people with dementia and related aged illnesses. Greenwood is a city in and the county seat of Greenwood County, South Carolina, United States. The population in the 2020 United States Census was 22,545 down from 23,222 at the 2010 census. The city is home to Lander University. Geography and Climate Greenwood is located slightly northwest of the center of Greenwood County. Brookland Plantation
Brookland Plantation (often written as Brooklands Plantation) is a large plantation along Shingle Creek on Edisto Island, South Carolina. History Brookland Plantation existed on Edisto Island at least by the late 18th century, when it was the home of Joseph and Martha Jenkins, who are buried on the farm. The current plantation house, however, was built later. The core of the house was built of black cypress, and its side pavilions were added later. Long-gone cabins for the enslaved people who worked the land once stood between what are now grand old oak trees. The house was perhaps built between 1800 and 1807, but some, such as architectural historian Samuel G. Stoney, claim that the house was likely built in the 1840s. The exact date of construction has not been determined, but Robert Mills is a suggested architect for the house.
