Connaught School For Girls
Connaught School for Girls is a single-sex girls' secondary school and comprehensive school situated in Leytonstone, London. It educates up to 636 girls between the ages of 11 and 16. In February 2013 it became an academy. History The first school on the Connaught Road site was a temporary mixed school which opened in 1900 and was discontinued after four years. In 1904 the school became a high school for boys as part of the Norlington Road council school for boys, girls and infants. In 1932 the school reopened as Connaught Road senior girls' school with a junior mixed department. The reopened school was the only Leyton school to be built between the two world wars under the Leyton School Board 1929–32 reorganisation programme. The junior mixed department closed in 1948 when the school became a secondary (modern) school for girls, taking over its adjoining premises. Leytonstone () is an area in east London, England, north-east of Charing Cross. Part of the London Borough of Waltham Forest, a local authority district of Greater London. Sharon White (civil Servant)
Dame Sharon Michele White, Lady Chote, (born 21 April 1967) is a British businesswoman. She is currently Chair of the John Lewis Partnership, having previously held a variety of roles in the Civil Service. She was the Chief Executive of the British media regulator Ofcom from March 2015 to November 2019, and was Second Permanent Secretary at HM Treasury from 2013 to 2015. She was the first black person, and the second woman, to become a Permanent Secretary at the Treasury. Asha Solette Philip (born 25 October 1990) is an English Sprint (running), sprinter and former junior gymnast specialising in double mini-trampoline. She was the first British woman to achieve a global 100 metres title at any age-group, winning gold at the 2007 World Youth Championships in Athletics, 2007 World Youth Championships aged 16. Joanne Fenn (née Mersh; born 19 October 1974 in Leytonstone London), attended Connaught School for Girls and is an English singer-songwriter and is a former Olympic middle-distance runner. Sporting career Fenn was English schools 300m hurdles champion and later competed in the 400-metre hurdles and heptathlon. After a series of injuries she changed to the 800 metres with her breakthrough season in 2002. She was a member of the Wood ford Green with Essex Ladies athletic club. At the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester she ran her first sub 2-minute performance with 1:59.86 . In 2004 Fenn won the 800m bronze medal at the World Indoor Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
