Congressional Districts Of Missouri
Missouri is currently divided into 8 congressional districts, each represented by a member of the United States House of Representatives. Due to the 2010 census, Missouri lost a congressional seat in 2013. The biggest impact has been in the 3rd congressional district (which includes portions of St. Louis which had large population losses in the census). The district effectively became part of the 1st district. The largely rural 9th district, which also suffered population decreases and was also dissolved, became part of the 6th district north of the Missouri River and part of a redrawn more rural 3rd district south of the river. Salem, Missouri
Salem is the county seat of Dent County, Missouri, United States. The population was 4,608 at the 2020 census, which allows Salem to become a Class 3 city in Missouri; however, the city has chosen to remain a Class 4 city under Missouri Revised Statutes. Salem is located a few miles north of the Ozark Scenic Riverways and close to Montauk State Park, which contains the headwaters of the Current River. The name Salem is derived from the Hebrew word ''Shalom'', meaning "peace". History Dent County was first explored by Dustin Counts and settled between 1818 and 1829. Jason Thomas Smith (born June 16, 1980) is an American businessman and politician who has been the U.S. representative for Missouri's 8th congressional district since 2013. The district comprises 30 counties, covering just under 20,000 square miles of southeastern and southern Missouri. Ozark is a city in and the county seat of Christian County, Missouri. Its population was 21,284 as of the 2020 census. The 2019 population estimate was 20,482. Ozark is also the third largest city in the Springfield, Missouri Metropolitan Area, and is centered along a business loop of U.S. Route 65, where it intersects with Missouri Route 14. Eric Wayne Burlison (born October 2, 1976) is an American politician who currently serves as the U.S. representative from Missouri's 7th congressional district since 2023. He previously served as the representative for District 133 ( Greene County) in the Missouri House of Representatives. Tarkio, Missouri
Tarkio is a city in Tarkio Township, Atchison County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,506 at the 2020 census. It was platted in 1880 and incorporated in 1881. The name "Tarkio" is from a Native American word meaning "place where walnuts grow". Historically, the economy of the city was based on agriculture and its status as a college town. History Tarkio was founded by Charles E. Perkins in 1880, and grew rapidly. By 1900, the U.S. Census shows 2,845 persons living in Tarkio. According to the 1910, 1920, and 1930 census, the number of residents held fairly steady for the next 30 years.
