Congressional Progressive Caucus
The Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) is a congressional caucus affiliated with the Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Party in the United States Congress. The CPC represents the most Left-wing politics, left-leaning faction of the Democratic Party. "[T]he Congressional Progressive Caucus, the umbrella group for left-leaning Democratic members of Congress". It was founded in 1991 and has grown since then. As of March 22, 2022, of the 117th United States Congress, the CPC has 101 members (99 voting United States House of Representatives, Representatives, 1 non-voting Delegate, and 1 United States Senate, Senator), making it the largest ideological caucus in the Democratic Party (slightly larger than the New Democrat Coalition) and the second largest ideological caucus overall (after the Republican Study Committee). Pramila Jayapal ( ; born September 21, 1965) is an American politician serving as the United States House of Representatives, U.S. representative from since 2017. A member of the Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Party, she represents most of Seattle, as well as some suburban areas of King County, Washington, King County. David Edward Bonior (born June 6, 1945) is an American politician from the U.S. state of Michigan. First elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1976, Bonior served as Democratic whip in the House from 1991 to 2002, during which time Democrats were in both the majority (1991–1995) and minority (1995–2002), making Bonior the third and second highest-ranking Democrat in the House, respectively. Major Robert Odell Owens (June 28, 1936 – October 21, 2013) was an American politician and librarian who served in the United States House of Representatives from 1983 to 2007, representing the New York's 11th and then 12th Congressional district. The Republican Study Committee (RSC) is a study group of conservative members of the Republican Party in the United States House of Representatives. As of 2021, the Chairman of the RSC is Representative Jim Banks of Indiana. Although the primary functions of the RSC vary from year to year, it has always pushed for significant cuts in non-defense spending, supported free trade agreements, advocated socially conservative legislation, and supported the right to keep and bear arms.
