Confiance-class Patrol Vessel
The ''Confiance'' class or Patrouilleurs Antilles Guyane (PAG), previously called "''Patrouilleurs légers guyanais''" (PLG, "Light Guyane patrol vessel") until January 2019 is a type of high sea patrol vessel developed and built by Socarenam based upon plans by Mauric. They are in service with the French Navy. As of 2020, two of the ships, ''Confiance'' and ''Résolue'', were based in French Guiana, while the third, ''Combattante'', has her home port at Martinique. History In 2015, the Direction générale de l'Armement ordered two light patrol ships from Socarenam, as well as six years worth of maintenance for each ship from CNN MCO. Socarenam (french: SOCARENAM, acronym: ''Société Calaisienne de Réparation Navale et Mécanique'') is a French employee-owned shipbuilding company that operates shipyards in multiple ports in northern and western of the country. History Socarenam was founded in Calais in 1961 by Société Navale Caeannaise for repair and maintenance of its commercial fleet. In 1969, the company established a new shipyard on the former site of Les chantiers BAHEUX in Boulogne-sur-Mer, a famous riveted steel fishing vessels shipbuilder that was created at the end of 19th century and had previously moved its headquarters to Boulogne. Fort Saint Louis (often hyphenated as Fort Saint-Louis) is a seaside fortress in Fort-de-France, Martinique. The present-day fort has evolved from earlier strongholds that were erected on the site as early as 1638, and has been known in previous incarnations as Fort Royal and Fort de la Republique. Dégrad des Cannes is the main seaport for the French Overseas department of French Guiana, situated in the northern edge of South America and opening into the Caribbean. The seaport is located on the estuary of the Mahury River. Nearly all of French Guiana's imports and exports pass through this port.
