''Conductor 1492'' is a 1924 American silent comedy film directed by Charles Hines and starring Johnny Hines. It was produced and distributed by Warner Bros. Plot As described in a review of the film in a film magazine, Terence O’Toole (Hines) leaves his old home in Ireland to seek his fortune in America. He becomes "Conductor 1492" on a trolley car belonging to a system which both the president and vice-president are struggling to gain control. The final outcome of this fight depends on two shares of stock which are missing and which if not found will bring disgrace to President Connelly. The villain produces two forged shares but Johnny’s father saves the day by producing the real shares, which he bought a number of years before. In the meantime Terence has fallen in love with Connelly’s daughter and he gets her as his reward. Charles Hines (director)
Charles Hines (1892–1936) was an American actor and film director of the silent era.Munden p. 359 Born in Pennsylvania, he was the second of three brothers who had careers in the new film industry. He died at the age of 43 in Los Angeles, California. His younger brother, actor Johnny Hines, appeared in 50 films, mostly during the silent era. Hines directed him in some of these films. Their older brother Samuel E. Hines had mostly bit-parts in silents. Dick Sutherland
Dick Sutherland (born Archibald Thomas Johnson, December 23, 1881 – February 3, 1934) was an American film actor, active mostly during the silent film era. Born in Benton, Kentucky, in 1881, Sutherland appeared in more than 70 films between 1921 and 1932. Sutherland died at his home in Hollywood, California, from a heart attack, at the age of 52. He was survived by his wife, Verba, and three sons, Harry, Everett, and Lester. He is interred at Inglewood Park Cemetery.
