Condobolin railway station is located on the Broken Hill line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the town of Condobolin. History Condobolin station opened on 18 December 1893. It served as the terminus of the Broken Hill line until it was extended to Trida in 1919. The present station building was erected in 1935. Services Condobolin is served by NSW TrainLink's weekly ''Outback Xplorer'' between Sydney and Broken Hill. NSW TrainLink also operate road coach services to Parkes and Cootamundra. Condobolin
Condobolin is a town in the west of the Central West region of New South Wales, Australia, on the Lachlan River. At the , Condobolin had a population of 3,486. History Prior to European settlement, the area was inhabited by the Wiradjuri people. The name Condobolin is suggested by some to have evolved from the Aboriginal word Cundabullen — shallow crossing. The crossing was located a short distance below the junction of the Lachlan River and the Goobang Creek. Others suggest that the town's name from the Wiradjuri word for 'hop bush', or 'hop brush'. The area was explored by John Oxley in 1817 and Thomas Mitchell in 1836. The 'Condoublin' run was established by 1844. There had been squatters in the district since Mitchell's 1836 exploration. Closer settlement of the area began in 1880 when the large runs were broken up into smaller holdings. The town of Condobolin was proclaimed in 1859. Broken Hill Railway Line
The Broken Hill railway line is now part of the transcontinental railway from Sydney to Perth. New South Wales's first line opened from Sydney to Parramatta Junction (near Granville Station) in 1855 and was extended as the Main Western line in stages to Orange in 1877. The Broken Hill line branched off the Main Western line at Orange and was opened to Molong in 1885. It was extended to Parkes and Forbes in 1893. This line was extended from Parkes to Bogan Gate and Condobolin in 1898 and Roto and Trida in 1919. An isolated section of line was also opened from Menindee to the town of Broken Hill in 1919, which met the gauge Silverton Tramway at a break-of-gauge. At Cockburn, the Silverton Tramway connected with the South Australian Railways system to Port Pirie and via a break of gauge at Terowie to Adelaide. Trida, New South Wales
Trida is a locality in Central Darling Shire in the Far West region of New South Wales, Australia. Original inhabitants Tride lay within the territory of the Wangaibon. Village Records show that a Hotel existed at Trida with the licence being established in 1889 by an Alexander Pearce. The Hotel known simply as the Trida Hotel. The remains of a small one room school were visible until recent times and a post office with telephone switchboard also once operated adjacent to the railway platform. Railway Trida was the terminus of the Broken Hill line between 10 February 1919 and 19 August 1925, from 1925 the line was completed between Sydney and Broken Hill. The station platform at Trida was opened on 10 February 1919 and is now closed (date of closure unknown). The Outback Xplorer is an Australian passenger train service operated by NSW TrainLink between Sydney and Broken Hill via the Main Western line. Commencing in March 1996, it was initially a locomotive-pulled service. It ceased in 2000 due to the poor state of the passenger carriages, but resumed in 2002 using Xplorer sets.
