Condobolin
Condobolin is a town in the west of the Central West region of New South Wales, Australia, on the Lachlan River. At the , Condobolin had a population of 3,486. History Prior to European settlement, the area was inhabited by the Wiradjuri people. The name Condobolin is suggested by some to have evolved from the Aboriginal word Cundabullen — shallow crossing. The crossing was located a short distance below the junction of the Lachlan River and the Goobang Creek. Others suggest that the town's name from the Wiradjuri word for 'hop bush', or 'hop brush'. The area was explored by John Oxley in 1817 and Thomas Mitchell in 1836. The 'Condoublin' run was established by 1844. There had been squatters in the district since Mitchell's 1836 exploration. Closer settlement of the area began in 1880 when the large runs were broken up into smaller holdings. The town of Condobolin was proclaimed in 1859. All Saints' Anglican Church, Condobolin
The All Saints' Anglican Church is a heritage-listed Anglican church located at McDonnell Street, Condobolin in the Lachlan Shire local government area of New South Wales, Australia. The church was possibly designed by Edmund Blacket and was built from 1878 to 1879 by Mr Brinsmead. It is also known as All Saints Anglican Parish Church. The property is owned by the Anglican Diocese of Bathurst. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 May 2008. Condobolin Railway Station, New South Wales
Condobolin railway station is located on the Broken Hill line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the town of Condobolin. History Condobolin station opened on 18 December 1893. It served as the terminus of the Broken Hill line until it was extended to Trida in 1919. The present station building was erected in 1935. The Shire is located adjacent to the Lachlan River, the Lachlan Valley Way and the Broken Hill railway line. The largest town and council seat is Condobolin. Mount Tilga
Mount Tilga, a hill located near in the Central West region of New South Wales, Australia, was said to be the exact centre of New South Wales. However, establishing the centre of an irregular shape is not a straightforward matter. Just where the centre of the State lies is open to dispute. According to Geoscience Australia a possible centre for New South Wales is just off Cockies Road, west-north-west of Tottenham, a small town west of Dubbo. Goobang Creek
The Goobang Creek, a perennial stream of the Lachlan subcatchment, part of the Murrumbidgee catchment of the Murray-Darling basin, is located in the Central West region of New South Wales, Australia. Course and features The Goobang Creek rises in the Curumbenya Range, north of Wolabler Mountain, east of . The creek flows generally southwest towards and then generally west, joined by three minor tributaries before reaching its confluence with the Lachlan River at Condobolin. The creek descends over its course. The Newell Highway crosses the creek near Parkes. History Prior to European settlement, the catchment area of the creek was inhabited by the Wiradjuri people. Lachlan River
The Lachlan River is an intermittent river that is part of the Murrumbidgee catchment within the Murray–Darling basin, located in the Southern Tablelands, Central West, and Riverina regions of New South Wales, Australia. The Lachlan River is connected to the Murray–Darling basin only when both the Lachlan and Murrumbidgee Rivers are in flood. It is the only river in New South Wales with significant wetlands along its length, rather than just towards its end, including Lake Cowal-Wilbertroy, Lake Cargelligo and Lake Brewster, and nine wetlands of national significance. Broken Hill Railway Line, New South Wales
The Broken Hill railway line is now part of the transcontinental railway from Sydney to Perth. New South Wales's first line opened from Sydney to Parramatta Junction (near Granville Station) in 1855 and was extended as the Main Western line in stages to Orange in 1877. The Broken Hill line branched off the Main Western line at Orange and was opened to Molong in 1885. It was extended to Parkes and Forbes in 1893. This line was extended from Parkes to Bogan Gate and Condobolin in 1898 and Roto and Trida in 1919. An isolated section of line was also opened from Menindee to the town of Broken Hill in 1919, which met the gauge Silverton Tramway at a break-of-gauge. At Cockburn, the Silverton Tramway connected with the South Australian Railways system to Port Pirie and via a break of gauge at Terowie to Adelaide.
