Concord station is a Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) station in Concord, California. The station is located between the downtown business district to the west and residential neighborhoods to the east. Concord station has a single elevated island platform. History The station opened as the eastern terminus station of the BART system on May 21, 1973. The station remained a terminus until the line was extended to North Concord/Martinez station in December 1995 and to Pittsburg/Bay Point station a year later. A water feature at the station, installed by Stephen De Staebler in 1971 or 1972, was removed in the 1990s. Concord ( ) is the largest city in Contra Costa County, California. According to an estimate completed by the United States Census Bureau, the city had a population of 129,295 in 2019 making it the eighth largest city in the San Francisco Bay Area. Founded in 1869 as Todos Santos by Don Salvio Pacheco II, a noted Californio ranchero, the name was later changed to Concord. Pittsburg/Bay Point station is a Bay Area Rapid Transit station in Pittsburg, California, United States, adjacent to the community of Bay Point. It serves northern and eastern Contra Costa County, as well as the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta. Passengers continuing their rail journey must transfer between the light and heavy rail portions of the at a separate transfer platform east of the main station. Stephen De Staebler (March 24, 1933 – May 13, 2011) was an American sculptor, printmaker, and educator, he was best recognized for his work in clay and bronze. Totemic and fragmented in form, De Staebler's figurative sculptures call forth the many contingencies of the human condition, such as resiliency and fragility, growth and decay, earthly boundedness and the possibility for spiritual transcendence.
