Concerto For Piano And Orchestra (Hess)
The Concerto for Piano and Orchestra is a work by Nigel Hess, first performed in 2007. It was commissioned by HRH Charles, Prince of Wales, in memory of his late grandmother Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. Prior to this, Hess was best known as a composer of film and television scores. The concerto was first performed by Lang Lang, who also recorded the work, in July 2007, at a concert at The Church of St James the Great, Castle Acre, Norfolk, organised by the charity Music in Country Churches. Nigel John Hess (born 22 July 1953) is a British composer, best known for his television, theatre and film soundtracks, including the theme tunes to ''Campion (1989 TV series), Campion'', ''Maigret (1992 TV series), Maigret'', ''Wycliffe (TV series), Wycliffe'', ''Dangerfield (TV series), Dangerfield'', ''Hetty Wainthropp Investigates'', ''Badger (TV series), Badger'' and ''Ladies in Lavender''. Biography Hess was born in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset. He was educated at Broadoak Mathematics and Computing College, Weston-super-Mare Grammar School for Boys, and went on to study music at Cambridge University, where he was Music Director of the famous Footlights Revue Company.
