Concertación (Paraguay)
The Coalition for a New Paraguay ( es, Concertación para un Nuevo Paraguay, Concertación), also known as Concertación 2023 or Concertación Opositora, is a coalition of Paraguayan political parties opposed to the ruling ANR-PC, formed in 2022. The Concertación held internal elections on 18 December 2022 where the candidates for governorship and the presidential duo for the 2023 general elections were defined. The Chamber of Deputies ''(Cámara de Diputados)'' is the lower house of Paraguay's bicameral legislature, the National Congress. It is made up of 80 members, elected for a five-year term by proportional representation. The other chamber of the National Congress (''Congreso Nacional'') is the Chamber of Senators (''Cámara de Senadores''). Unicameral congress was established in 1813, and replaced with bicameral congress including Chamber of Deputies and the Senate in 1870. 2023 Paraguayan General Election
General elections were held in Paraguay on 30 April 2023 to elect the president, vice president, National Congress, and departmental governors. The incumbent president Mario Abdo Benítez and vice president Hugo Velázquez Moreno, both of the Colorado Party, were ineligible for re-election. The Colorado candidate, former Finance Minister Santiago Peña, defeated both PLRA president Efraín Alegre from the Concertación alliance and former senator Paraguayo Cubas from the populist National Crusade Party.
