Concepción, Paraguay
Concepción () is a city & district in northern Paraguay and capital of the Concepción Department. It lies next to the Paraguay River. Founded by a Spanish Governor, named Agustín Fernado de Pinedo, the town prospered in the early years of the 20th century, as a centre for the north of the country, exploiting the new wealth of the Gran Chaco, and a river port. The town was also a centre for the Paraguayan Civil War of 1947. The city is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Concepción en Paraguay. Transportation Route 5 "Gral. Bernardino Caballero" connects the city with Pedro Juan Caballero and Asunción. Climate Concepción has a tropical savanna climate (Köppen: ''Aw'') with abundant annual precipitation, although possessing a highly prominent summer peak. Alajuelita is a canton in the San José province of Costa Rica. History Alajuelita was created on 4 June 1909 by decree 58. The first settlements in the area occurred by 1650. The name "Alajuelita" comes from a diminutive form of the name of Alajuela Province due to original settlers coming from that province. Geography Alajuelita has an area of km² and a mean elevation of metres. The odd-shaped canton reaches southwest from the suburbs of the national capital city of San José. It is delineated by the Tiribí River on the northeast, Cañas River on the east, Poás River on the southeast, and the Cerros de Escazú at it far southwestern end. History Atenas was created on 7 August 1868 by decree 30. Geography Atenas has an area of km2 and a mean elevation of metres. It is a fairly compact canton, mountainous for the most part.
