The ''Computerworld'' Smithsonian Award is given out annually to individuals who have used technology to produce beneficial changes for society. Nominees are proposed by a group of 100 CEOs of information technology companies. The award has been given since 1989. Its audience is information technology (IT) and business technology professionals, and is available via a publication website and as a digital magazine. As a printed weekly during the 1970s and into the 1980s, ''Computerworld'' was the leading trade publication in the data processing industry. The Heinz Nixdorf MuseumsForum (HNF) in Paderborn, Germany, is the largest computer museum in the world (as of 2018). It is named after the Paderborn computer pioneer and entrepreneur Heinz Nixdorf.
