Compass Box is a producer, bottler and marketer of a range of blended Scotch whiskies. The company is headquartered in Chiswick. Compass Box Whisky was founded in 2000 by American entrepreneur John Glaser, a former marketing director at Johnnie Walker. Blenders for Compass Box are Jill Boyd and James Saxon. The company's whiskymakers select distillates from a number of existing Scotch whisky distilleries, with the selected whiskies then being blended together and the resulting blend matured further. Scotch Whisky Regulations 2009
The Scotch Whisky Regulations 2009 (Citation 2009, No. 2890; SWR) is a Statutory Instrument that regulates the production, labelling, advertising and packaging of Scotch whisky. The regulations were laid before the Parliament of the United Kingdom on 30 October 2009, and came into force on 23 November 2009. They repealed the Scotch Whisky Act 1988 and The Scotch Whisky (Northern Ireland) Order 1988. Previous legislation had only governed the way Scotch Whisky was produced; however, the Scotch Whisky Regulations 2009 also set rules for the labelling, packaging and advertising of Scotch whisky. Bruichladdich distillery ( ; ) is a distillery on the Rhinns of Islay, Rhinns of the isle of Islay in Scotland. World Whiskies Awards
With a growing number of offerings, such as those produced by an increasing number of microdistilleries, various mechanisms have arisen to provide reviews and opinions of individual varieties of spirits. These events generally use expert panels and blind tastings within specific categories to provide opinions and ratings. These competitions charge an entry fee. Although gold, silver and bronze awards are granted there are no limits as to how many of each may be bestowed. Most of these events follow a similar format: Experts typically begin by assessing a given spirit based upon its "appearance" and "nose", its aroma.
