COMPASS, ''COMP''rehensive ''ASS''embler, is any of a family of macro assembly languages for Control Data Corporation's 3000 series, and for the 60-bit CDC 6000 series, 7600 and Cyber 70 and 170 series mainframe computers. While the architectures are very different, the macro and conditional assembly facilities are similar. COMPASS for 60-bit machines There are two ''flavors'' of COMPASS on the 60-bit machines: * COMPASS CP is the assembly language for the CP (Central Processor), the processor running user programs. In computer programming, a macro (short for "macro instruction"; ) is a rule or pattern that specifies how a certain input should be mapped to a replacement output. The CDC Cyber range of mainframe-class supercomputers were the primary products of Control Data Corporation (CDC) during the 1970s and 1980s. In their day, they were the computer architecture of choice for scientific and mathematically intensive computing. They were used for modeling fluid flow, material science stress analysis, electrochemical machining analysis, probabilistic analysis, energy and academic computing, radiation shielding modeling, and other applications. Memory Address Register
In a computer, the memory address register (MAR) is the Central processing unit, CPU Hardware register, register that either stores the memory address from which data will be fetched to the CPU registers, or the address to which data will be sent and stored via system bus. In other words, this register is used to access data and instructions from memory during the execution phase of instruction. MAR holds the memory location of data that needs to be accessed. When reading from memory, data addressed by MAR is fed into the Memory data register, MDR (memory data register) and then used by the CPU.
