Company Of Science And Art
Company of Science and Art (CoSA) was a small software company headquartered in Providence, Rhode Island. It was founded in 1990 by Greg Deocampo (also a member of the video art collective Emergency Broadcast Network), David Foster, David Herbstman, and David Simons. William J. O'Farrell became its CEO in 1990. It operated for slightly less than three years. However, during its brief existence, CoSA created the category-defining After Effects desktop animation and compositing program, releasing version 1.0 in 1992. In 1993, CoSA was acquired by the Aldus Corporation; Aldus was in turn acquired by Adobe in 1994. Aldus Corporation was an American software company best known for its pioneering desktop publishing (DTP) software. PageMaker, the company's most well-known product, ushered in the modern era of desktop computers such as the Macintosh seeing widespread use in the publishing industry. Paul Brainerd, the company's co-founder, coined the term ''desktop publishing'' to describe this paradigm. The company also originated the Tag Image File Format (TIFF) file format, widely used in the digital graphics profession. Emergency Broadcast Network
Emergency Broadcast Network is a multimedia performance group formed in 1991 that took its name from the Emergency Broadcast System. The founders were Rhode Island School of Design graduates Joshua Pearson, Gardner Post, and Brian Kane (author of the Vujak VJ software). Kane left EBN in 1992. CoSA VFX
Cosa was a Latin colony founded in southwestern Tuscany in 273 BC, on land confiscated from the Etruscans, to solidify the control of the Romans and offer the Republic a protected port. The Etruscan civilization, Etruscan site (called ''Cusi'' or ''Cosia'') may have been where modern Orbetello stands; a fortification wall in polygonal masonry at Orbetello's lagoon may be in phase with the walls of Cosa. The position of Cosa is distinct, rising some 113 metres above sea level and is sited 140 km northwest of Rome on the Tyrrhenian Sea coast, on a hill near the small town of Ansedonia.
