The Communauté d'agglomération de Fécamp Caux Littoral is the ''communauté d'agglomération'', an intercommunal structure, centred on the town of Fécamp. It is located in the Seine-Maritime department, in the Normandy region, northern France. It was created on 1 January 2015 from the former communauté de communes de Fécamp. It absorbed the former Communauté de communes du Canton de Valmont on 1 January 2017. Its area is 207.1 km2. Fécamp
Fécamp () is a commune in the Seine-Maritime department in the Normandy region in north-western France. Geography Fécamp is situated in the valley of the river Valmont, at the heart of the Pays de Caux, on the Alabaster Coast. It is around 35 km northeast of Le Havre, and around 60 km northwest of Rouen. History Origin of the name According to its late medieval founding legend, the trunk of a fig tree (''ficus'') carrying the Precious Blood of Christ collected by Joseph of Arimathea was washed ashore on the riverbank at Fécamp in the 1st century. Immediately, a fountain of holy blood gushed from the site; the relic attracted many medieval pilgrims, enhancing the reputation of the city. The monks' legend justified the artificial etymology of the name to ''Fici-campus'', the camp of the fig tree. Sassetot-le-Mauconduit
Sassetot-le-Mauconduit () is a commune in the Seine-Maritime department in the Normandy region in northern France. Geography A farming village, by the coast of the English Channel, in the Pays de Caux, situated some northeast of Le Havre, at the junction of the D5 and D79 roads. The commune is sandwiched between two ‘’vallons’’, short valleys that create a gap in the huge cliffs, giving access to the sea via the pebble beach. The name comes from the Norman "Sax-Tot", meaning ‘’village of the Saxons". Mauconduit was the name of the 13th century seigneurs. Saint-Pierre-en-Port () is a commune in the Seine-Maritime department in the Normandy region in northern France. Geography A farming village in the Pays de Caux, situated some northeast of Le Havre, at the junction of the D33 and D79 roads. The commune has a pebble beach and some very high limestone cliffs overlooking the English Channel. History Several polished stone axes were discovered here in the 19th century, evidence of human presence in the Neolithic period (9000 to 3300 years BC). In 1970, archaeological excavations found sarcophagi of the Merovingian period (500 to 750 AD). In the 13th century, a church was built on the site of the old cemetery. At the same time, the chapel of Saint-Gervais was built on the plateau at Boulleville (near the present-day water tower). This was destroyed in a fire in the early 18th century.
