Vaugines (; oc, Vaugina) is a commune in the Vaucluse department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France. It lies on the southern slopes of the Luberon Massif. It is a very old and isolated village. Vaugines has preserved its Provençal style, with its peaceful decorated lanes of traditional stone rural houses. Taillades
Taillades (; oc, Lei Talhadas) is a commune in the Vaucluse department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France. It is east of Cavaillon, and south east of Avignon. Situated in the Luberon, the village covers 675 hectares of which 320 are mountainside. It has a population of about 1,900 inhabitants. The village was awarded the 'two flowers' standard in the national competition for floral villages. History The village developed as a community of stone workers employed at the quarries nearby. The entrance to the old village is marked by a medieval tower, a vestige of the original castle. The castle was rebuilt in the seventeenth century. In 1859, the village mill, Moulin Saint-Pierre, was built. Today it is used as a function room for the village. Oppède
Oppède (; oc, Opeda) is a commune in the Vaucluse department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France. ''Oppidum'' is the Latin word for 'town'. History It is in fact two villages: Oppède-le-Vieux ("the old" in French), built against the Petit Luberon and dating back to the 12th century, and Oppède-les-Poulivets ("nice view" in Provençal), today known as "le village", down in the valley. The old village, built on a rocky hill, has narrow streets. In winter, the Petit Luberon starts casting its shadow early in the afternoon. Houses beyond the medieval ramparts are dark, humid and tricky to maintain. From below the village is dominated by the restored church of Notre-Dame-Dalidon and the ruins of the castle. In the 19th century, the inhabitants had enough and started to move down in the valley, dismantling the roof of their houses to stop paying property taxes. Mérindol (; oc, Merindòu) is a commune in the Vaucluse department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France. Lourmarin (; oc, Lormarin) is a commune in the Vaucluse department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France. Its inhabitants are called ''Lourmarinois''. Geography Lourmarin is located in the French region of Provence, at the foot of the Luberon Massif where a southern pass debouches over the Luberon from Apt on the northern side of the Luberon. The pass divides the Grand Luberon from the Petit Luberon range, an area rich in Neolithic remains and noted for its dramatic massifs and rockscapes. The Aigues Brun brook comes out of the pass and runs just to the west of the village (''Aigue'' is a Provençal language word for "water", coming from Latin ''aqua'').
