''Dasypeltis scabra'', known as the common egg eater, egg-eating snake or rhombic egg eater, is a species of snake in the family Colubridae. It is endemic to Africa. Geographic range ''Dasypeltis scabra'' is found in sub-Saharan Africa. It can also be found in Saudi Arabia and in other countries of the Middle East. Description ''D. scabra'' grows to a total length (including tail) of , and has almost toothless jaws. Dorsally, it has a series of rhomboidal dark brown spots on a lighter background. There is an alternating series of brown spots on each side and a distinct V-shaped mark at the back of the neck. Ventrally it is yellowish, either uniform or with dark dots. Mimicry It has been suggested that non-venomous ''Dasypeltis scabra'' is a mimic of venomous ''Echis carinatus'', the saw-scaled viper, which it strongly resembles. George Albert Boulenger
George Albert Boulenger (19 October 1858 – 23 November 1937) was a Belgian-British zoologist who described and gave scientific names to over 2,000 new animal species, chiefly fish, reptiles, and amphibians. Boulenger was also an active botanist during the last 30 years of his life, especially in the study of roses. Carl Gans (7 September 1923 – 30 November 2009) was a German-born American zoologist and herpetologist. Early life and education Gans, who was Jewish, was born in Germany. While a teenager in 1939, he was able to escape Nazi Germany by fleeing to the United States, where he completed his education. He attended George Washington High School in New York City.
