Committees Of The European Parliament
The committees of the European Parliament are designed to aid the European Commission in initiating legislation. Standing committees are made up of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), who are directly elected to the seats in the European Parliament by the electorate. Each committee has a chairman and four vice-chairmen, along with numerous committee members. Each committee also has substitute members. Reports are usually compiled by a rapporteur, who is appointed by the chairman of the committee, selected from amongst the members or permanent substitutes. Appointment The established system for the appointment of committee chairs follows the D'Hondt method. Younous Omarjee
Younous Omarjee (born 30 September 1969 in Saint-Denis, Réunion) is a French politician who has been serving as a Member of the European Parliament since 4 January 2012. He sits with the Confederal Group of the European United Left - Nordic Green Left. Since July 2019, Omarjee has been chairing the European Parliament Committee on Regional Development. He is also a member of the Conference of Committee Chairs, of the European Parliament Committee on Budgets and of the European Parliament Committee on Budgetary Control.
