Committee For Agriculture, Environment And Rural Affairs
The Committee for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs was established in Northern Ireland to advise and assist the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs and the Minister for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (currently Andrew Muir (politician), Andrew Muir), on matters within his responsibility as a Minister. The committee undertakes a scrutiny, policy development and consultation role with respect to the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs and plays a key role in the consideration and development of legislation. Until 2016, the committee was called the Committee for Agriculture and Rural Development. 2022–2027 Assembly The committee will meet for the first time in the 2022–2027 Assembly on 14 February 2024. The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) is a government department in the Northern Ireland Executive, the devolved administration for Northern Ireland. The minister with overall responsibility for the department is the Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs. The department was called the ''Department of Agriculture and Rural Development'' between 1999 and 2016. The Minister of Agriculture previously existed in the Government of Northern Ireland (1921–1972), where the department was known as the ''Department of Agriculture for Northern Ireland'' or the ''Ministry of Agriculture''. The current Permanent Secretary is Denis McMahon. Thomas Buchanan (Unionist Politician)
Thomas Buchanan (born 30 July 1963) is a Unionist politician from Northern Ireland representing the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). Buchanan has been a Member of the Northern Ireland Assembly (MLA) for West Tyrone since 2003. He is also one of the DUP's members of the Northern Ireland Policing Board. He was educated at Langfield Primary School, Castlederg Secondary School, and at Omagh Technical College. In 1993 he was elected to Omagh District Council and became its youngest member and in 2004 was voted Vice Chairman. Strangford (, Ulster Scots: ''Strangfurd'') is a constituency in the Northern Ireland Assembly. The seat was first used for a Northern Ireland-only election for the Northern Ireland Forum in 1996. Since 1998, it has elected members to the current Assembly. Michelle McIlveen
Michelle McIlveen MLA (born 21 January 1971) is a Unionist politician from Northern Ireland representing the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). She was elected to the Northern Ireland Assembly as a Democratic Unionist Party member for Strangford in 2007. She has been General Secretary of the DUP since 2008. Mid Ulster (, Ulster Scots: ''Mid Ulstèr'') is a constituency in the Northern Ireland Assembly. It was first used for a Northern Ireland-only election in 1973, which elected the then Northern Ireland Assembly. It usually shares boundaries with the Mid Ulster UK Parliament constituency. Patsy McGlone (born 8 July 1959) is an Irish politician from Ballinderry in Northern Ireland. He is a Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP) Member of the Northern Ireland Assembly for Mid Ulster, and former Deputy Leader of the SDLP (2010–2011). He has been an MLA since 2003. On 12 May 2016, McGlone was elected Deputy Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly. From 1993 to 2009, McGlone was also Councillor in Cookstown District Council. Andrew Muir (born 9 July 1976) is a Northern Irish politician who is an Alliance Party Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for North Down. He was appointed as an MLA following incumbent Alliance MLA Stephen Farry's election as MP for North Down in the 2019 UK general election, and elected in the constituency in the 2022 Northern Ireland Assembly election.
