Off-track Betting
Off-track betting (or OTB; in British English, off-course betting) is sanctioned gambling on horse racing outside a race track. U.S. history Before the 1970s, only the state of Nevada allowed off-track betting. Off-track betting in New York was legalized in 1970, after years of unsuccessful attempts. By the 1970s there were 100 betting parlors in New York City, and twice that number by the late 1980s. In New York City, the thought was that legal off-track betting would increase revenue while at the same time decrease illegal gambling activity, but one effect of the legalization was a decrease of revenue at racetracks. The 1978 Interstate Horseracing Act struck a compromise between the interests of horse tracks and owners, the state, and OTB parlors, and stipulated that OTB revenues were to be distributed among the tracks, the horse owners, and the state. Another stipulation was that no OTB parlor was allowed to operate within of a track. Revenues at the track indeed lessened, ...

Chinese Poker
Chinese poker is a card game based on poker hand rankings. It is intended as a beginner-friendly game, with only a basic knowledge of poker hand rankings needed to get started. The format allows for frequent unexpected outcomes due to the large element of luck involved, meaning a beginner has a good chance of winning in the short term against even experienced opponents. Gameplay Chinese poker is typically played as a four-person game, though it can also be played with two or three. Playing a hand In Chinese poker, each player receives a 13-card hand from a standard 52-card deck. Each player then has to divide their cards into three poker hands (known as "setting"): two containing five cards each (known as "the middle" and "the back"), and one containing three cards ("the front"); ''the back'' must be the highest-ranking hand, and ''the front'', the lowest-ranking hand (note that straights and flushes do not count in the three-card hand). The ''back hand'' is placed face dow ...

Baccarat
Baccarat or baccara (; ) is a card game played at casinos. It is a comparing card game played between two hands, the "player" and the "banker". Each baccarat coup (round of play) has three possible outcomes: "player" (player has the higher score), "banker", and "tie". There are three popular variants of the game: ''punto banco'', ''baccarat chemin de fer'',"Baccarat" in ''Chambers's Encyclopædia''. London: George Newnes, 1961, Vol. 2, pp. 32-33. and ''baccarat banque'' (or ''à deux tableaux''). In ''punto banco'', each player's moves are forced by the cards the player is dealt. In ''baccarat chemin de fer'' and ''baccarat banque'', by contrast, both players can make choices. The winning odds are in favour of the bank, with a house edge of at least 1 percent. History The origins of the game are disputed, and some sources claim that it dates to the 19th century. Other sources claim that the game was introduced into France from Italy at the end of the 15th century by soldiers re ...

Blackjack
Blackjack (formerly Black Jack and Vingt-Un) is a casino banking game. The most widely played casino banking game in the world, it uses decks of 52 cards and descends from a global family of casino banking games known as Twenty-One. This family of card games also includes the British game of Pontoon, the European game, Vingt-et-Un and the Russian game Ochko. Blackjack players do not compete against each other. The game is a comparing card game where each player competes against the dealer. History Blackjack's immediate precursor was the English version of '' twenty-one'' called ''Vingt-Un'', a game of unknown (but likely Spanish) provenance. The first written reference is found in a book by the Spanish author Miguel de Cervantes. Cervantes was a gambler, and the protagonists of his " Rinconete y Cortadillo", from ''Novelas Ejemplares'', are card cheats in Seville. They are proficient at cheating at ''veintiuna'' (Spanish for "twenty-one") and state that the object of the gam ...

Panguingue
Panguingue (pronounced pan-geen-ee), Tagalog Pangginggí, also known as Pan, is a 19th-century gambling card game probably of Philippine origin similar to rummy, first described in America in 1905. It used to be particularly popular in Las Vegas and other casinos in the American southwest. Its popularity has been waning, and it is now only found in a handful of casinos in California, in house games and at online poker sites. In California, it, and the low-ball version of poker, were the only games for which it was legal to play for money. The deck The game is traditionally played using a 320-card deck, constructed from eight decks of playing cards, removing all eights, nines, tens, and Jokers, which makes it like the 40-card Spanish deck. In some localities, 5, 6, or 11 decks are used, and often one set of spades is removed. Meanwhile in the Philippines, instead of Anglo-American deck, they traditionally use the original 40-card Spanish Deck for the game with Ace,2-7,Jack, Cavalie ...
