Commander-in-Chief Of The Ground Forces (Kazakhstan)
The Commander-in-Chief of the Ground Forces (; ) is the professional head of the Kazakh Ground Forces. He/she is responsible for the administration and the operational control of the Ground Forces. The current Commander is Major General Talgat Koibakov. The position of the Commander of the Ground Forces, as well as the state institution that is the Directorate of the Commander of the Ground Forces did not exist from July 2000 to June 2002 and from November 2004 to April 2009. In the indicated periods, the Ground Forces of Kazakhstan did not have their own centralized command and control body. On 14 June 2002, the office was created. The Kazakh Ground Forces (, ; ) is the land service branch of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan. It is one of the three uniformed military services, and is the most senior branch of the Kazakh military in order of precedence. The main tasks of the Ground Forces include the following: maintaining the readiness of troops to repel aggression, the armed defense of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Kazakhstan, protecting the state and military facilities, peacekeeping missions. Lieutenant General Fedor Ivanovich Shcherbakov (; 26 May 1947 – 16 August 2022) was a Kazakh military officer of Russian descent, who served as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Kazakh Ground Forces. Biography He was born 26 May 1947 in the village of Bïdayık in the Zhanaarka District of the Karaganda Region. From 1966 to 1970, he studied at the Tashkent Higher All-Arms Command School.
