Comités Abertos de Faculdade (CAF, ''Open Faculty Committees'' in English) was a student organization of Galiza. Formed from the union of different faculty assemblies. The main goals of the CAF were defending quality and the Galician language public education. It was an assembly-based organization. The CAF were considered the heirs of the ERGA. Composition The CAF traditionally incorporated almost all of the nationalist left organizations operating at the university (Galician Nationalist Bloc, Galician Socialist Party-Galician Left, MCG, Communist Party of the Galician People...), but with the integration of most of these groups in the Galician Nationalist Bloc the organization ended being formed mainly by militants of Galiza Nova and people without party affiliation. Santiago De Compostela
Santiago de Compostela is the capital of the autonomous community of Galicia, in northwestern Spain. The city has its origin in the shrine of Saint James the Great, now the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, as the destination of the Way of St. James, a leading Catholic pilgrimage route since the 9th century. In 1985, the city's Old Town was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Galiza Nova
Galiza Nova (''Young Galiza'') is the youth organisation of the Galician Nationalist Bloc, founded in 1988. History Galiza Nova is the youth organisation of the Galician Nationalist Bloc (BNG) whose basic function is the organisation and mobilization of youth in order to achieve the national liberation of Galicia and the social transformation of the modern society. Its operation is based on assemblearism, with a decentralized structure divided in local and regional assemblies. The highest political body is the National Assembly that is held every two years, and where all the membership has the right to attend. Comités (''Committees'' in English language) is a student organization of Galiza. Formed from the union of the CAF-CAF (Comités Abertos de Facultade, ''Open College Committees'' in English) and the CAE (Comités Abertos de Estudantes, ''Open Student Committees'' in English). Comités defends public, democratic and quality education in galician language. It is an assembly-based organization. The Comités are considered the heirs of the CAF, CAE and of the ERGA. History Due to the internal problems of the CAF and the CAE, those two organizations opted for its self-dissolution and boosted the creation of a new galician student union. That organization would be Comités, that had its constituent assembly in May 2008. Comités Abertos de Estudantes (CAE, ''Students Open Committees'' in English) was a Galician nationalist and left-wing student union, formed by high school, ''bachillerato'' and ''professional formation'' students. On May 10, 2008, CAE dissolved itself to form, along with the Comités Abertos de Faculdade (CAF), a new student union, Comités. Galician People's Union
The Galician People's Union ( gl, Unión do Povo Galego) is a Galician nationalist and communist political party, and is one of the registered political parties of Spain. The party publishes the magazine ''Terra e Tempo'', and the secretary general is Néstor Rego. It was founded in 1964 with the intention of the independence of Galicia and its transformation into a socialist state. It caused the creation of nationalist fronts such as the Galician National-Popular Assembly and the Bloque Nacionalista Galego. Since 1982 it is one of the parties in the coalition. Movemento Estudantil Universitario (MEU, ''University Student(s) Movement'' or ''Student Universitarian Movement'' in English language) was a student union representative of college students with presence in the universities of Galicia. Born in December 2010, its main goal was a single, public, Galician, international and democratic university in Galicia. History In 1994, in reaction to what was perceived as the Galician People's Union control over the CAF, a group of students created a new student union called Movemento Estudantil Universitario. In the middle 90s it was one of the most important student unions of Galicia. The original MEU disappeared in the late 1990s due to the lack of new militants.
