Comilla Victoria College
Comilla Victoria Government College is a college in Comilla, Bangladesh. It is one of the oldest and renowned colleges in Comilla as well as in Chittagong division. The college is located beside of Ranir Dighi on 32 acres of land including its intermediate and honors section. History Fazlul Karim was the first Muslim teacher of this college in 1937. He later became the Vice Principal of the college in 1958 until his retirement in 1972 when the college was made a government college. Academics At present, the college has 15,000 students and 147 teachers, of whom 36 are women. Freedom fighters Many students of Comilla Victoria College joined the Bangladesh liberation war in 1971. A memorial has been built inside the campus commemorating the sublime contribution of these freedom fighters. Housing Comilla Victoria College has five dormitories: four for boys and one for girls. Ekushey Padak
Ekushey Padak ( bn, একুশে পদক; lit. "Twentyfirst Award") is the second highest civilian award in Bangladesh, introduced in memory of the martyrs of the Bengali Language Movement of 1952. The award is given to recognize contributions in a number of fields, including culture, education, and economics. The Ministry of Cultural Affairs administers the award. The award consists of an 18 carat gold medal weighing 3 tolas and a certificate of honour. The medal was designed by the artist Nitun Kundu. The amount of the cash reward was originally ৳ 25,000, but it was subsequently increased to ৳ 100,000 in 2015. Next it was increased to tk 2,00,000 in 2017 and to tk 4,00,000 as of November 2019. Ajit Kumar Guha
Ajit Kumar Guha (15 April 1914 – 12 November 1969) was a Bengali educationist. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2013 posthumously by the Government of Bangladesh. Education and career Guha passed the matriculation from Ishwar Pathshala and intermediate from Comilla Victoria College in 1930 and 1932 respectively. He earned his bachelor's from Comilla Victoria College in 1934 and master's from Calcutta University in 1939. He studied at Visva-Bharati University in Santiniketan from 1940 to 1942. Guha started teaching at the Priyanath High School from 1942 until 1948. He then joined the Jagannath College as a professor in the Department of Bangla. Santi Ghose (also known as Santi Ghosh; 22 November 1916 – 1989) was an Indian nationalist who, along with Suniti Choudhury, assassinated a British district magistrate when she was 16 years old and is known for her participation in an armed revolutionary struggle. Early life Ghose was born on 22 November 1916 in Kolkata (formerly called Calcutta). India. She belongs to Yadav caste and was the daughter of Debendranath Ghose, a nationalist and a professor of philosophy at Victoria College of Comilla in eastern Bengal. Kamal Dasgupta (28 July 1912 – 20 July 1974), also known as ''Kamal Uddin Ahamed'' was a Bangla music director, composer and folk artist. Rāga and Thumri were the main elements of his music. Early life and career Dasgupta was born on 28 July 1912 in Narail, Jessore of the then British India. He matriculated in 1928 from Calcutta Academy and later completed B. Com. from Comilla Victoria Government College. He earned his doctorate in music from Banaras Hindu University in 1943 for his work on Meerabai, the composer and singer of Bhajans. His early inspiration came from his father, Tara Prasanna Dasgupta. He took his first music lessons from his brother, Bimal Das Gupta. Fazlul Halim Chowdhury
Fazlul Halim Chowdhury (1 August 19309 April 1996) was a fellow of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences and one of the longest-serving Vice-Chancellors of the University of Dhaka.
