Comics Code
The Comics Code Authority (CCA) was formed in 1954 by the Comics Magazine Association of America as an alternative to government regulation. The CCA allowed the comic publishers to self-regulate the content of comic books in the United States. The code was voluntary; there was no law requiring its use, although some advertisers and retailers looked to it for reassurance. Some publishers including Dell, Western, and Classics Illustrated never used it. Its code, commonly called "the Comics Code", lasted until the early 21st century. The CC formation followed a moral panic centered around a series of Senate hearings and the publication of psychiatrist Fredric Wertham's book ''Seduction of the Innocent''. Members submitted comics to the CCA, which screened them for adherence to its code, then authorized the use of their seal on the cover if the book was found to be in compliance. Juvenile Delinquency
Juvenile delinquency, also known as juvenile offending, is the act of participating in unlawful behavior as a minor or individual younger than the statutory age of majority. In the United States of America, a juvenile delinquent is a person who commits a crime and is under a specific age. Most states specify a juvenile delinquent as an individual under 18 years of age while a few states have set the maximum age slightly different. In 2021, Michigan, New York, and Vermont raised the maximum age to under 19, and Vermont law was updated again in 2022 to include individuals under the age of 20. Only three states, Georgia, Texas, and Wisconsin still appropriate the age of a juvenile delinquent as someone under the age of 17. While the maximum age in some US states has increased, Japan has lowered the juvenile delinquent age from under 20 to under 18. Victor Gorelick
Victor Gorelick (April 5, 1941 – February 8, 2020) was an American comic book editor and executive. Working in a variety of roles for Archie Comics for over 60 years, he rose to the position of editor-in-chief. Career After studying at the School of Industrial Art (now known as the High School of Art and Design), Gorelick joined Archie Comics at age 16, when it was being run by its original founders, John Goldwater and Louis Silberkleit. Gorelick began in the publisher's art department, making corrections, and learning how to color and ink. Archie Americana Series
The Archie Americana Series is a series of comic book Trade paperback (comics), trade paperbacks, published by Archie Comics from the early 1990s to 2011. The series attempts to present a history of ''Archie (comic book), Archie'' comics, with each book featuring significant stories from a specific decade, and featuring introductions by famous writers and celebrities. The series initially covered the entire span between the 1940s and the 1990s with stories showcasing some of the more significant stories from those decades.
