Columbus Dispatch Building
The Columbus Dispatch Building is a historic building on Capitol Square in Downtown Columbus, Ohio. The building was home to the ''Columbus Dispatch'' newspaper offices until January 2016, when it moved to 62 E. Broad St. on Capitol Square. A renovation restored the building closer to its original exterior appearance, while adding modern features. The building is now headquarters to the Ohio Chamber of Commerce. The building is owned by Capitol Square Ltd., a real estate and development branch of the Wolfe family’s Dispatch Printing Co., the former owners of the ''Dispatch''. The site formerly housed the city's downtown YMCA, a Yost & Packard building; the Y moved to the Downtown YMCA building in 1923. Capitol Square
Capitol Square is a public square in Downtown Columbus, Ohio. The square includes the Ohio Statehouse, its Capitol Grounds, as well as the buildings and features surrounding the square. The Capitol Grounds are surrounded on the north and west by Broad and High Streets, the main thoroughfares of the city since its founding, forming the city's 100 percent corner. ''The Columbus Dispatch'' is a daily newspaper based in Columbus, Ohio. Its first issue was published on July 1, 1871, and it has been the only mainstream daily newspaper in the city since ''The Columbus Citizen-Journal'' ceased publication in 1985. As of November 2019, Alan D. Miller is the newspaper's interim general manager. History The paper was founded in June 1871 by a group of 10 printers with 900 in financial capital. The paper published its first issue as ''The Daily Dispatch'' on July 1, 1871, as a four-page paper which cost 4¢ (¢ in ) per copy. Yost & Packard
Yost & Packard was an architectural firm based in Columbus, Ohio, United States. The firm included partners Joseph W. Yost and Frank Packard. It was founded in 1892 and continued until Yost moved to New York City in 1899, after which Packard took up practice in his own name. The firm was known for many public buildings, and the prolific use of masonry, especially Berea sandstone, along with tile roofs with flared eaves, polygonal turrets, and intricate ornamentation. Downtown YMCA
The Downtown YMCA is a historic YMCA building in Downtown Columbus, Ohio. It is the largest YMCA resident facility in the United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993. The seven-story building was designed in the Jacobethan Revival and Late Gothic Revival styles by Walter F. Shattuck. History The YMCA was first established in Columbus in 1855, reorganized in 1875, and moved locations numerous times. The Columbus Register of Historic Properties is a register for historic buildings and other sites in Columbus, Ohio, United States. The register is maintained by the City of Columbus Historic Resources Commission and Historic Preservation Office, and was established in 1980.
