Columbian Iron Works
The Columbian Iron Works and Dry Dock Company (1872–1899), was located in Baltimore, Maryland on the Locust Point peninsula, adjacent to Fort McHenry. Founded by William T. Malster (1843–1907) who later partnered with William B. Reaney in 1879, it opened for business on 16 July 1880. The company was located on adjacent to Fort McHenry where it leased the property from the Baltimore Dry Dock Company. USS Rodgers (TB-4)
The second USS ''Rodgers'' (Torpedo Boat No. 4/TB-4/Coast Torpedo Boat No. 2) was a United States Navy torpedo boat, laid down by the Columbian Iron Works & Dry Dock Co., Baltimore, Maryland, on 6 May 1896; launched on 10 November 1896; and commissioned on 2 April 1898, Lt. Joseph Lee Jayne in command. It was named after John Rodgers as well as John Rodgers. Service history Spanish–American War Fitted out at Norfolk, Virginia, ''Rodgers'' began training in Chesapeake Bay in mid-April. On 24 April 1898, the United States Congress declared war on Spain and five days later the torpedo boat got underway for the Caribbean. Arriving at Key West on 9 May, she joined the blockading vessels off Havana on the 21st; remained with them through the 23rd; then sailed to join the fleet cruising off the north coast of Cuba to prevent the Spanish fleet from reaching the blockaded city from the east.
