Colquhoun Railway Station
Colquhoun Railway Station was opened on Monday 10 April 1916 as part of the Orbost railway line. The station has long since closed, with the last train passing the site in 1987. Little evidence remains of the former station site, however the site remains as part of the East Gippsland Rail Trail, which follows the route of the former rail line. Orbost Railway Line
The Gippsland line (also known as the Orbost railway line) is a railway line serving the Latrobe Valley and Gippsland regions of Victoria, Australia. It runs east from the state capital Melbourne through the cities of Moe, Morwell, Traralgon, Sale and terminating at Bairnsdale. Prior to its dismantling in 1994, the line extended to Orbost. The dismantled section now comprises the East Gippsland Rail Trail, a shared bicycle, walking, and horseriding track. East Gippsland Rail Trail
The East Gippsland Rail Trail is a rail trail located in East Gippsland in Victoria, Australia. The trail is a popular cycling route, beginning in Bairnsdale and extending to Orbost, following the route of the former Orbost railway line. The Bairnsdale-Orbost railway was opened in 1916 to serve the agricultural and timber industry, and required numerous substantial bridges because of the nature of the terrain. Due to the decline in traffic and heavy operating costs, the line was finally closed in August 1987 and the track infrastructure removed in 1994. The shared trail is also available for walkers and recreational horseriding, however motorised vehicles are prohibited. The trail is long and passes through a variety of forest and farmland landscapes with occasional views of the Gippsland Lakes. Nowa Nowa is a small town in the Australian state of Victoria. It is in East Gippsland, near Lakes Entrance. History Nowa Nowa Post Office opened on 11 March 1893, though closed for about five years from 1895 to 1900. Nowa Nowa railway station on the former Orbost railway line opened in April 1916, with the line closing in 1987. Commercial area Nowa Nowa has been a timber town relying on local mills for income, however this is no longer the case. There is currently only one mill operating. There are two caravan parks, one general store, one hotel/motel, one healthcare clinic and art galleries. Nowa Nowa is the home of the Nowa Nowa Nudes Art Show held in November each year.
